Canva, a global leader in visual communication, just acquired two companies: Cavalry, a UK-based 2D animation platform, and MangoAI, a US startup specialising in AI-driven creative optimisation for video ads. These moves show Canva’s dedication to adding advanced AI and design tools and speeding up its product development.

Cavalry and MangoAI are Canva’s fourth and fifth acquisitions in two years, after Affinity and Leonardo in 2024 and MagicBrief in 2025. These new additions help Canva move closer to its goal of creating the world’s most complete visual communication platform by combining professional creative tools with the latest AI technology.

As of early 2026, more than 265 million people use Canva, including teams at over 95% of the Fortune 500. Canva’s AI tools have been used over 24 billion times, and in 2025 alone, more than 50 million new users joined.

Financially, Canva reported over $4 billion in annualised revenue for 2025 (a 36% year-over-year increase), more than 31 million paid seats, and strong free cash flow for the ninth consecutive year.

Cavalry: Expanding the professional creative suite

Cavalry is already the secret weapon for motion designers at Amazon, Meta, Google, and Netflix. Now, those advanced 2D animation chops are landing inside Canva’s creative suite.

Created by animators for animators, Cavalry makes animation smarter, faster, and easier to use. Combining Cavalry with Affinity’s photo, vector, and layout editing tools offers a seamless solution that replaces the need for multiple costly design programs.

Cavalry’s founders, Chris Hardcastle, Ian Waters, and Adam Jenns, are joining Canva to help level up its pro creative tools.

This marks Canva’s seventh European acquisition, underlining its global appetite for creative tech.

MangoAI: Supercharging Canva’s AI capabilities

MangoAI brings its own flavour: unique AI algorithms and a closed-loop system that learns from real-time data to make video ads perform better, automatically.

Plugging MangoAI into Canva means a big boost for Canva Grow (their marketing intelligence platform) and even more creative smarts on top of what MagicBrief brought to the table.

What’s Next for Canva?

With Cavalry’s animation magic and MangoAI’s AI-powered optimisation, Canva is doubling down on smarter, more powerful creative tools for teams everywhere.
