- Kabilio raised €10 million in a round led by Picus Capital and Visionaries, both of which approached the company to invest.
- Kabilio’s customer base grew from around 100 accounting firms in November 2025 to just over 500.
- The funding will fund a beta launch of an AI agent this November and support a new client platform.
Kabilio, a Spanish startup that builds AI software for accounting firms and their SMB clients, wasn’t looking for new funding. Picus Capital and Visionaries, which led the pre-seed, contacted the Barcelona startup after seeing its customer growth, Jose Ojeda, co-founder and co-CEO, told Tech Funding News.
Picus Capital and Visionaries led the €10 million round, with CDTI, Spain’s public agency for technological innovation, also joining.
“We didn’t even go to market. We didn’t go raise money. They approached us, seeing the growth and how happy our customers were, and they made an offer,” Ojeda says.
The new funds will fund development of the AI accounting agent and Kabilio Empresas, a platform that connects SMBs with their accountants.
From timber construction to tax filings
Ojeda and his co-founder, Alex Valls, have started three companies together before founding Kabilio in 2024 and launching in 2025.
Ojeda was already well-versed in accounting, having grown up with his father, who ran a tax and accounting firm, and having managed finance teams in other countries. When he returned to Spain, he saw that small businesses still brought their papers into the office. In Spain, as in much of Europe, small businesses will outsource their bookkeeping and tax work. At the time, an estimated 65,000 such firms operated in the country.
“We love to enter industries that we know nothing about, but with new technology, we really find a way to modernize them and make them more efficient,” Ojeda says.
Before launching, they spoke to 20 to 30 firms and clearly identified the problems. Ojeda says accountants spend 80% of their time on typing and admin work. He also points to the difficulty of recruiting the right people and the fact that every quarter’s tax deadline brings a flood of late work.
An agent that works under the accountant’s signature
Kabilio starts with pre-accounting. The AI can read invoices, suggest how to book them, match bank transactions, prepare reconciliations, and flag anything that needs a human to review. It works with the tools the business already uses. Kabilio claims it reduces bookkeeping and reconciliation time by around 60%.
Customers include Adlanter, Solfico and Gemap. Ojeda says Kabilio grew primarily through direct sales and referrals, not growth hacks. It now has over 80 people on the books, mostly in tech and product, and expects to serve over 500 companies by the end of 2026.
The agent, which will go into beta in November, is the next step. Firms can give it the sorts of tasks you’d give a brand-new staff member, e.g. pulling invoices out of client emails, reconciling bank statements, checking entries, chasing up missing paperwork. It can also chat to clients via email and WhatsApp.
Ojeda confirms it’s not yet commercial, and several firms are currently testing it.
Rivals are raising too, and some want to replace accountants
Speaking about competition, Pennylane raised $200 million in January 2026, led by TCV. Elsewhere, Basis secured a $100 million Series B at a $1.15 billion valuation, led by Accel, for AI agents that do accounting workflows for firms. In Berlin, Integral took a different tack with an €18 million Series A in September.
Investment in AI agents is rising across the professional services sector: Athena raised $2.5 million in pre-seed from a16z Speedrun for a legal service using AI agents. Causa Prima in Madrid and Munich landed $20 million in seed funding for agents that handle B2B invoice settlement. AI was Spain’s most-funded sector in 2025, according to Dealroom data, which TFN used to rank Spain’s top AI startups.
Kojeda says Kabilio isn’t planning to raise more funding right now, but it’s the natural next step. The main question is whether Spanish accountants will trust an agent with client work and whether Kabilio can stay competitive as rivals like Basis raise bigger rounds.
