Reflex Aerospace, a German manufacturer of high-performance satellite platforms, has raised €50 million in Series A funding, the largest ever in Europe’s New Space sector. The round was led by Human Element, with participation from Alpine Space Ventures, Bayern Kapital, HTGF, and Renovatio Financial Investments.
The investment comes amid a surge of funding in space-related hardware startups such as HyImpulse and EnduroSat across Europe.
The fresh funding will enable Reflex to ramp up production in Bavaria, expanding its capacity to deliver constellations offering Optical, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Space Domain Awareness (SDA), and Signal Intelligence (SIGINT) capabilities. The company aims to demonstrate its full platform range in orbit by 2027.
Accelerates next-gen satellite constellations
Founded in 2021 by Walter Ballheimer, Alexander Genzel, and Christian Lindener, Reflex Aerospace designs and manufactures payload-specific satellite platforms for both commercial and defence missions. Its mission is to shorten satellite production lead times and enhance performance using cutting-edge manufacturing processes.
Reflex’s next-generation Praetora platform is engineered for high-intensity ISR missions. it represents a leap forward in satellite technology. The company’s first remote sensing satellite successfully reached orbit in January 2025, a key step in its plan to deploy a sovereign constellation serving both government and allied defence needs.
Defending Europe’s digital frontier
Europe is entering a phase of renewed focus on space defence, with the EU’s European Space Shield Initiative set to launch in 2026 and Germany pledging €35 billion toward space-related defence projects by 2030. German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius recently warned that satellite networks are the “Achilles heel of modern societies,” highlighting the need for secure, homegrown systems.
Reflex Aerospace is positioned at the heart of this transformation. By merging speed, innovation, and strategic autonomy, it aims to ensure Europe is no longer dependent on external powers for critical geospatial data. As global tensions rise, Reflex’s technology could play a defining role in safeguarding Europe’s intelligence and communications future.
“Europe cannot afford to remain reliant on external actors for space-based intelligence,” said Walter Ballheimer, CEO of Reflex Aerospace. “We will invest our own capital, we will work with the best partners in their respective domains, and we will act now because in the current environment, there is no time to waste.”
“While Europe is rebuilding its sovereign defence capabilities, Reflex is transforming how satellites are built, designing payload–centric buses that can be rapidly manufactured without costly mega factories,” said Christian Sullivan, Managing Partner of Human Element. “Their approach delivers the flexibility and speed needed to meet the growing ISR demand across Germany and allied markets.”
