Ex-Volkswagen boss Muller backs $30M funding round of chat and HR app for frontline workers

In an emerging trend, over 2.7 billion workers globally are involved in deskless work globally during the pandemic. However, only 1% of business software is enabling this trend. An employee app from Germany, Flip empowers deskless work by capitalises on this market opportunity, which enables companies to communicate in a reliable and fast manner and keep employees actively engaged and equally informed.

Raised $30M

In a recent development, Flip has raised $30 million in Series A funding to accelerate growth. The funding round was co-led by the London-based investor Notion Capital and Berlin-based fund HV Capital, the investor in DELLI, JOKR and more. Also, existing investors Cavalry Ventures and LEA Partners, well-known angel investors such as former Volkswagen chairman Matthias Müller, management and political consultant Roland Berger, former BASF chairman Jürgen Hambrecht, former Celesio AG CEO Fritz Österle, German businessman and former politician Kurt Lauk and Flixbus founders Daniel Krauss and Jochen Engert joined the round.

Flip will use the funds to accelerate its growth and move ahead with international expansion to the UK. It will also focus on investing in its core market, the DACH region and expand to further European markets. Simultaneously, Flip will also focus on recruiting fresh talent as it focuses on growth.

Investing in effective employee communications and overall company culture, is, therefore, a fundamental element for companies looking to gain competitive advantage,” said former Volkswagen Chairman and angel investor Matthias Müller.

That has made it an essential part of the working day for many employees. The fresh capital will allow us to accelerate growth for our product and to further expand our team.”

Employees can stay connected

HR tech startup Flip was founded in 2018 by Benedikt Ilg and Giacomo Kenner and has become one of the fastest-growing startups in Germany. It designs the most intuitive and secure employee app and uses it to further develop communication in the workplace. The app was designed to create collaboration and improve the workplace experience. The app lets and improves the collaboration of all employees, regardless of their workplace.

The company is a competitor to Yoobic and Meta workplace and has seen its revenue grow 6x since their last raise. Also, it serves 200 corporates including Porsche, McDonald and the supermarket chain Edeka.
