It is usually complex for developers to build and manage backend applications easier and make them compatible with Kubernetes. Also, it requires a strong knowledge of DevOps and infrastructure, which is a limited resource, and a problem on a global scale. Danish startup Rig.dev makes it easier for developers to deploy and scale.

It has created a developer-first open-source platform built on Kubernetes to help software developers build scalable backends faster. Now, the company has netted €2 million in pre-seed funding. This is one of the largest-ever Danish pre-seed rounds.

The investment came from venture capital firms byFounders (that backed Spoke.ai and Supernormal), Dreamcraft, and NP-Hard Ventures alongside a number of smaller venture funds and business angels. Rig.dev will use the funds to scale its team, further develop the product, and begin commercialisation.

“We are extremely proud that in a difficult market, we have managed to raise a round that from the start gives us the opportunity to build the product we want with the team we want. With our platform, developers used to working with Kubernetes will maintain control and save a lot of time, while those who are not easily can get started without having to deal with the complexity,” said Rig.dev co-founder Anders Johnsen.

Helps businesses to build scalable applications

Aarhus-based Rig.dev was founded in early 2023 by Anders Johnsen, who is a former developer at both Uber and Google and Thor Christensen, with a background in a number of Danish and international software companies.

Its open-source platform helps developers build scalable backend and cloud infrastructure faster and removes much of the complexity from developing. it allows developers to spend more time coding the business-critical part of their software.

Over 5.6 million developers use Kubernetes as part of their cloud infrastructure. By combining the flexibility and scalability of Kubernetes with the power of a developer-centric platform, Rig.dev will set a new standard for software infrastructure that can scale to millions of users. The platform includes a Dashboard, CLI, and CI/CD pipelines that seamlessly integrate with GitHub Actions.
