Vocca raises $5.5M to bring AI phone assistants to healthcare’s front desk crisis

More than 70% of medical appointments are still booked by phone, yet patients routinely hang up after waiting on hold for five minutes or more. This inefficiency contributes to $150 billion lost annually in missed revenue and wasted administrative effort, while medical staff face burnout from relentless phone volumes and high turnover rates.

Eliott Hoffenberg and Hugo Danet founded Vocca in 2024 with a clear mission: to use AI to lighten the load on healthcare receptionists while improving patient access. “We resolve more than 80% of requests with no hold time and no human intervention,” says Hoffenberg.

The company announced today a $5.5 million funding round led by Speedinvest and firstminute capital, alongside participation from Kima Ventures, FJ Labs, Sequoia Scout, and notable angel investors, to accelerate its growth and expansion.

Vocca’s AI agents are not generic chatbots. Trained on specialised medical vocabulary and fully integrated with healthcare scheduling software, they manage appointment bookings, reminders, and patient inquiries autonomously. The technology is tailored for each medical speciality’s workflows and uses a natural, conversational voice to create a seamless patient experience.

The impact speaks volumes. Vocca has processed over four million calls and is now deployed across more than 2,000 healthcare providers. Clinics report up to 70% fewer missed appointments and significant time savings; for example, one multidisciplinary centre credits the AI with saving 11 staff hours daily on phone duties alone.

At a hospital in the Paris region, Vocca increased call response rates from 30% to 100%, dramatically improving patient access. The platform meets regulatory standards for healthcare privacy, including compliance with HIPAA and GDPR.

Looking ahead, Vocca plans to triple its team and expand aggressively in the U.S. and Europe, targeting use by over 10,000 practitioners by 2026. Investors are bullish on the company’s potential, with Sam Endacott of firstminute capital saying, “Vocca reduces patient waiting times and boosts provider performance. It feels like a glimpse into the future, where voice and AI transform the way we experience healthcare”

Andrea Zitna of Speedinvest adds, “Vocca doesn’t just save time – it changes the daily reality of care teams.”
