The rush to back AI startups is only getting stronger, and investors are now racing to find the next big winners early. In this crowded space, venture firms are trying to stand out by writing bigger cheques and focusing only on companies built around AI from day one. UK’s Air Street Capital is doing exactly that.
Air Street Capital is a venture capital firm that invests only in companies focused on artificial intelligence. They support businesses where AI significantly enhances products, competitive edge, and long-term growth.
Founded and led by Nathan Benaich, the firm invests globally, primarily in Europe and the U.S., partnering with founders who build advanced AI systems, infrastructure, and applications grounded in strong research and technical differentiation from the start.
Largest solo GP venture firm
The London-based venture firm has raised a new $232M fund to invest in AI-first startups across North America and Europe. This is its third fund, and it plans to lead early-stage rounds with investments ranging from $500K to $15M. For a few later-stage companies, it can go up to $25M.
Nathan Benaich, who started investing in AI back in 2013, says the bet has always been simple: the most important companies of this generation will be built around artificial intelligence. That belief led him to launch Air Street in 2019 as a firm focused entirely on AI.
With Fund III, Air Street is now the largest solo GP venture firm in Europe. The London VC has already backed several well-known names in the space. These include Synthesia, which generates AI videos for enterprises, Wayve, working on self-driving technology, and Profluent, which is designing gene-editing systems using AI.
The firm has also seen successful exits, including companies acquired by giants like Amazon and SoftBank.
With this new fund, Air Street wants to double down on areas where AI is not just improving existing systems but creating entirely new ones. Its focus will remain on software, developer tools, AI-driven science, infrastructure, and defence technologies.
“Our focus remains on AI-first software, developer tools and infrastructure, techbio and science, and defence and security – the areas where AI is not simply improving the status quo but enabling entirely new kinds of products and companies to be built,” says Nathan.
The State of AI Report
Beyond funding, the firm has also built a strong presence in the AI community.
Its annual “State of AI” report is widely followed, and its events bring together researchers, founders, and engineers from across the world.
“We will also remain committed to speaking out when the ecosystem needs it. Whether that is our work on the spinout.fyi – where key Air Street reforms to the university spinout playbook were accepted by the UK Government, or our Air Street Press essays and policy memos, we believe that if something is worth saying, it’s worth saying publicly,” says Nathan.
