Paris-based AI startup Probabl, spun out of France’s national research institute Inria, has secured €13 million in seed funding to accelerate development of its open-source probabilistic forecasting tools built around the widely popular machine learning library scikit-learn.

The round was co-led by French venture capital firm Serena and hedge fund Capital Fund Management. Other participants included Mozilla Ventures, the French sovereign wealth fund French Tech Souveraineté, and Inria Participations. This latest raise brings Probabl’s total funding to approximately €18.5 million.

Founded in 2023 by CEO Yann Lechelle, a seasoned tech entrepreneur and former Scaleway CEO, and principal scikit-learn contributors, including Gaël Varoquaux and Camille Troillard, Probabl aims to bring greater transparency and customisation to AI forecasting systems. The startup’s open-source platform allows data scientists to inspect model assumptions, quantify uncertainty, and safely deploy forecasts into production.

Alongside its free tools, Probabl recently launched Skore, a premium product tailored for enterprise data science teams. Skore provides model lifecycle management with features like version control, monitoring, and optimisation, and is currently in pilot testing with select clients.

Probabl sits among a competitive field of AI prediction and MLOps vendors, but its deep roots in the scikit-learn project and commitment to open-source stewardship position it uniquely as a bridge between academic research and production-ready AI systems.

With its new capital, Probabl plans to expand its engineering and product teams across Europe, enhance core platform capabilities, including real-time forecasting accuracy and interpretability, and grow its user and community base through training programs and certifications.

The startup also intends to scale Skore into a comprehensive ML lifecycle management suite that meets enterprise demands.
