Emergency response systems face unprecedented challenges today. Ageing infrastructure, severe staffing shortages, and rising public expectations have overwhelmed 911 centres. According to Carbyne’s recent Pulse of 9-1-1 survey, 88% of emergency call centres experienced service outages last year, with few having access to modern features like texting or live video. Further complicating matters, up to 70% of calls are non-emergencies, intensifying the burden on teams already struggling with burnout and retention.
Carbyne addresses these challenges head-on with the world’s first AI-native, cloud-based emergency response system. The platform connects callers and dispatchers through live video, precise geolocation, and instant translation in over 40 languages, reducing response times and alleviating pressure on frontline teams. The recent $100 million investment, part of $250 million raised to date, demonstrates strong investor confidence in Carbyne’s mission to modernise public safety.
In a conversation with TFN, Amir Elichai, Carbyne’s founder and CEO, states: “We’re proud of the strong investor support and momentum behind the company. This latest milestone is a testament to the urgent need for modern emergency solutions and the impact Carbyne is already having worldwide.”
While the company hasn’t disclosed its current valuation, its impressive growth speaks volumes: a 477% year-over-year increase in annual recurring revenue (APEX ARR), a 105% rise in APEX platform customers, and deployment across nearly 300 sites in 23 U.S. states and six countries, supporting over 7,000 call takers globally.
AI that saves lives today
Carbyne’s origin stems from personal experience. Amir Elichai, a former Israeli Defence Forces officer with elite special forces and intelligence background, founded the company after a personal crisis revealed critical flaws in existing systems.
“After being robbed at the beach, I called local emergency services, only to discover they couldn’t verify my location or send immediate help. That moment showed me the gap between modern communication technology and outdated emergency response systems, and it sparked my mission to build something better,” Elichai recalls.
Along with co-founders Alex Dizengof, a visionary R&D leader known for transforming customer needs into innovative technical solutions, and Yony Yatsun, an experienced software architect, Carbyne developed a fully cloud-native platform with AI at its core.
Diversity is fundamental to Carbyne’s technology design and team building. “Public safety is about trust and accessibility. When anyone dials 911, they need a real person to answer: someone who represents and understands their community,” Elichai says. The company actively recruits talent from diverse backgrounds. At the same time, the APEX platform’s AI-driven translation and transcription capabilities enable call takers to serve multilingual populations without delay, even during high-stress emergency calls.
Emergency call-taker positions have traditionally attracted a limited personality type due to high stress and workload. Carbyne’s AI tools break down these barriers by supporting diverse backgrounds and work styles, fostering a more inclusive and resilient workforce equipped to meet evolving public safety demands.
Unlike competitors who merely add AI to legacy systems, Carbyne built AI into its foundation, using proprietary datasets from millions of emergency interactions to train virtual agents capable of understanding complex crisis scenarios. Elichai says, “Our AI tools help dispatchers triage calls faster and with greater accuracy, reducing response times, easing frontline pressure, and ultimately saving lives.”
What’s next for Carbyne? Modernising emergency response
Carbyne is now expanding beyond 911. With this record-breaking funding from investors including AT&T Ventures, Axon Enterprise, Cox Enterprises, and Global Medical Response, the company will extend its AI-powered platform across new essential industries and regions, enhancing security and compliance throughout.
Elichai tells TFN: “Our plan for the next three to five years is clear. We’ll accelerate development of our AI platform to improve speed, accuracy, and situational awareness, expand into industries beyond public safety, and extend our footprint globally across North America, Latin America, and EMEA. We’re also investing heavily in innovation, real-time data integration, predictive analytics, and multilingual support to stay ahead of evolving threats and demands.”
Key partners like Axon are already collaborating to integrate Carbyne’s real-time intelligence with connected devices, enabling faster, smarter decisions for first responders. Global Medical Response highlights the crucial improvements that cloud-native, data-rich technology brings to frontline emergency care. These partnerships and innovations position Carbyne as the leader in the intelligence era of emergency response.
Elichai concludes, “Every person counts. Behind every 911 call is a human being: frightened, vulnerable, and hoping for help. Technology must treat every moment and every voice as critical. That’s the promise we’re building every day, because when lives are at stake, every second matters.”
