German medtech EVERSION raises €2.3M to tackle the pain hiding in your shoes

  • EVERSION Technologies has raised €2.3 million in a Seed II round to grow its corrective insole technology.
  • German insurers already cover the product, giving the startup a rare early advantage in the medtech field.
  • With this round, led by Kammerer Holding and Kreissparkasse Biberach, EVERSION now has more than 1,500 customers.

Julia Zimmermann spent years trying to find out why she had hip pain, only to learn it was caused by her shoes. Her search brought her to orthopaedic master shoemaker Wolfgang Triebstein. Together, they started EVERSION Technologies, a medtech startup in the German city of Konstanz that just raised €2.3 million in a Seed II round led by Kammerer Holding and the Chancenkapitalfonds der Kreissparkasse Biberach.

“I know from my own experience how hip pain can take over daily life. It means so much to me that we can help so many people with our solution,” says Zimmermann, co-founder and CEO of EVERSION.

Musculoskeletal disorders are the main reason for sick leave in Germany, accounting for about one in four absences. EVERSION says that wearing the wrong shoes often leads to misalignment, which can cause pain in the knees, hips, and back. Unlike regular orthotics that just support the foot, the “0°-sole” insole helps restore natural alignment. The bottom of the insole adjusts the load based on user data, while the top allows the foot to move naturally.

EVERSION was founded in 2022 and is led by Zimmermann, Triebstein, Timon Sutter, Maximilian Starkmann, and Lucas Heitele, who bring experience in engineering, computer science, orthopaedic shoemaking, and sports science.

Customers wear sensor insoles and use an app for two weeks to collect movement data that is used to build a 3D biomechanical model. This model is then used to create a custom insole that matches each person’s needs, providing targeted support rather than a one-size-fits-all solution.

Insurers are already paying for it

The market is divided among several players. Moticon in Munich makes lab-grade sensor insoles for research and elite sports. France’s Digitsole has raised about $2.2 million for smart footwear for consumers, and Canada’s Orpyx focuses on preventing diabetic foot ulcers through clinical reimbursement.

EVERSION, on the other hand, focuses on general consumer health and prevention, selling directly to customers and building a network of clinical referrals. It has also secured insurance coverage that many competitors do not yet have.

Getting insurance reimbursement is a big milestone for EVERSION. By the end of 2025, the company had received CE certification as a medical device, launched its product, and secured reimbursement. All German statutory health insurers now cover the product through a prevention-course program regulated by the Zentrale Prüfstelle Prävention, and privately insured patients can get reimbursed with a prescription.

EVERSION now has more than 1,500 customers, and that number is still growing.

Remaining challenges for EVERSION

The global market for gait-analysis systems is expected to reach about $3 billion in 2026 and $5.72 billion by 2033, with a 9.6% annual growth rate. Other developments in the field include Model Health’s work to make gait tracking available on smartphones, CUREosity’s VR rehab therapy focused on reimbursement, and the growing involvement of German family offices and regional Sparkasse funds as early investors, which also back EVERSION.

“It’s impressive what milestones the team has achieved in such a short time: certification, market entry, reimbursement,” notes Jürgen Maucher, managing director of the Chancenkapitalfonds der Kreissparkasse Biberach, EVERSION’s lead investor since its seed round.

Christopher Kammerer of Kammerer Holding adds: “As a family office, we invest for the long term and with conviction. EVERSION combines what matters most to us: a real solution to a widespread problem, a strong team, and a viable, innovative business model.”

After its January 2025 seed round, which raised a seven-figure sum and was also led by Kreissparkasse Biberach, EVERSION finished developing its product, increased production, and worked on getting medical device approval.

The new €2.3 million will help the company grow its sales and marketing and build more partnerships with doctors, therapists, and orthopaedic supply stores. EVERSION’s bigger goal is to help people see how their shoes, walking style, and pain are connected. Other investors include Start-up BW Seed Fonds, S-Kap Unternehmensbeteiligungsgesellschaft, Meerkat, Turtle, and angels from the Heimatboost, BACB, and hivn networks.

Insurance-covered prevention is still rare in the gait-analysis market. The main question now is whether EVERSION can use its early insurance approval to build a long-term advantage, or whether larger orthopaedic and insurtech companies will enter the market once reimbursement becomes more common.
