San Francisco-headquartered Databricks and OpenAI have signed a multi-year agreement worth $100 million to integrate OpenAI models directly into the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform and its flagship AI product Agent Bricks. The company says that with this agreement, OpenAI models such as GPT-5 are available to more than 20,000 Databricks customers.
“Under this partnership, GPT-5 will be a flagship model for all Databricks customers,” says the company.
“We’re seeing overwhelming demand from enterprise customers looking to build AI apps and agents on their data, tailored to their unique business needs,” says Ali Ghodsi, Co-founder and CEO of Databricks. “This partnership makes it easier for enterprises to securely leverage their data and OpenAI models at scale with best-in-class governance and performance.”
This partnership builds upon the companies’ existing work between OpenAI and Databricks. Notably, OpenAI uses Databricks to process AI data, which helps improve product quality and the ChatGPT experience. Databricks was also one of the first to host gpt-oss, OpenAI’s open-weight model.
Access to OpenAI models inside Databricks
Through the partnership, customers can natively use OpenAI’s latest models on Databricks without moving their data or setting up separate infrastructure. The models can be accessed via SQL or APIs, and are optimised to work within Databricks’ governance and security framework to run LLMs at scale.
Databricks’ Agent Bricks product will serve as the main tool for creating production-ready AI agents by assessing the accuracy of models like GPT-5 and GPT-oss using specific evaluations. They fine-tune these models for better, relevant results.
Databricks Unity Catalogue offers governance and controls for responsible AI, ensuring compliance with security and ethical standards, allowing teams to deploy agents confidently.
Databricks and OpenAI technical teams will work closely together to continually improve and optimise OpenAI models for enterprise use cases, ensuring high performance and rapid iteration for AI workloads.
