CrowdStrike announced its agreement to acquire Onum, a Spanish startup specialising in real-time telemetry pipeline technology, for about $290 million. Backed by leading investors Insight Partners, Kibo Ventures, and Dawn Capital with $40.8 million in funding, Onum is transforming how organisations extract value from their telemetry data by eliminating costly data migration bottlenecks and enabling real-time, AI-powered security operations.
Founded in 2022 by Pedro Castillo (former CEO of Devo) and Lucas Varela (former cybersecurity leader at CaixaBank), the company has quickly made its mark by addressing a pressing cybersecurity challenge: the overwhelming flood of telemetry data that traditional security tools struggle to handle, resulting in slower detection.
Traditional security platforms rely heavily on batch processing, which delays threat detection and burdens teams with noisy, voluminous data. Onum flips this approach with technology that processes up to five times the event rate of its closest competitors, reduces data storage costs by half, and accelerates incident response by up to 70%.
George Kurtz, CrowdStrike’s CEO, said: “Onum is both a pipeline and a filter, which will stream high-quality, filtered data directly into the platform to drive autonomous cybersecurity at scale. Built on a proprietary, stateless, in-memory architecture, Onum’s platform enables real-time, in-pipeline telemetry detection, allowing security teams to detect and respond to threats before the data even reaches the Falcon SIEM. This approach eliminates traditional onboarding hurdles, transforming costly and time-intensive data migration into a seamless streaming experience.
For investors including Dawn Capital and Insight Partners, the acquisition is a win for European cybersecurity innovation.
