CoreWeave, a New York-based cloud provider specialising in AI infrastructure, has expanded its partnership with OpenAI through a multi-billion-dollar agreement valued at up to $6.5 billion. This latest deal brings the total partnership value between the two companies to an eye-popping $22.4 billion this year alone, underscoring the explosive demand for AI compute as advanced models continue to scale.

Founded in 2017, CoreWeave’s niche focus on GPU-accelerated cloud services has made it a critical player as OpenAI and other AI labs race to deploy larger and more powerful models. Its sprawling data centre footprint across the U.S. and Europe offers hardware specifically optimised for the high-bandwidth, low-latency needs of AI training workloads.

To bolster its position, CoreWeave recently launched CoreWeave Ventures, a dedicated fund to back AI startups and founders with capital, infrastructure, and expertise. It also acquired AI startups OpenPipe and Weights & Biases to enhance its platform capabilities around model training, reinforcement learning, and AI experiment tracking.

Michael Intrator, CoreWeave CEO and co-founder, framed the expanded partnership as a vote of confidence from one of the world’s leading AI innovators. “This milestone confirms the industry’s trust in CoreWeave’s ability to power the most demanding AI workloads with unmatched speed and scale,” he said.

OpenAI’s Peter Hoeschele, VP of Infrastructure, echoed the sentiment, emphasising CoreWeave’s importance in advancing AI development and delivering on the promise of scalable, broadly accessible artificial intelligence. “They’re helping us push the frontier of intelligence while enabling the benefits of AI to reach everyone,” Hoeschele said
