While VC funds are breaking the funding winter mold by being adaptable, forward-thinking, and open to new investment opportunities – Seedcamp, a prominent early-stage fund based in London has just announced a new big fund. The VC has successfully closed its oversubscribed Fund VI, securing a substantial amount of $180 million. The fund will be utilised to support the most ambitious founders across Europe, ranging from angel to seed rounds. With an extensive portfolio of over 400 companies that includes notable names like UiPath, Wise, Revolut, Pleo, Sorare and more, Seedcamp has established itself as a key player in the European startup ecosystem.
The impressive backing behind Seedcamp Fund VI comes from influential investors worldwide. LGT, Reference Capital, Harbourvest, Legal & General, and notable angel investors such as Michael Pennington (Gumtree), Will Neale (Grabyo), Paul Forster (Indeed), Ilkka Paananen (Supercell), Shakil Khan (Prima Materia), and Kärt Siilats (GoBeyondCapital) are among the supporters. Additionally, notable founders from the Seedcamp Nation, including Taavet Hinrikus (Wise), Daniel Dines (UiPath), Jeppe Rindom (Pleo), and Johnny Boufarhat (Hopin), have also invested in the fund, further solidifying its credibility and potential for success.
Europe’s largest female-founded firm
Founded by Reshma Sohoni and Saul Klein, Seedcamp’s VI is almost double the size of Seedcamp V, making it the firm’s largest fund to date. It is also one of Europe’s largest funds closed by a female-founded firm.
With Fund VI, Seedcamp aims to increase its capital investment in companies, providing support from the initial Angel to Seed rounds and reserving capital for follow-on funding up to Series B rounds. Founders will have access to Seedcamp’s extensive global network and comprehensive in-house platform of support and resources. This platform is designed to help companies at every stage, offering connections to a network of industry experts, talented individuals, successful companies, and investors, all with the goal of assisting startups in reaching Series A funding and beyond.
In addition to its fund, Seedcamp has also introduced the Seedcamp Expert Collective, a community comprising more than 100 accomplished operators from successful businesses such as Uber, Stripe, Cloudflare, Revolut, Deliveroo, NextDoor, Skyscanner, and Wise. This collective will provide valuable support to Seedcamp’s community of founders and their teams through various means, including one-to-one sessions, workshops, curated content, micro-communities, and, in some cases, angel investment.
The Seedcamp Partners commented, “In spite of what is happening in the macro-climate, we believe the time for investment in fundamental innovation is now, be it from chip set level (GPUs versus CPUs) to transformer models and software distribution. Our collective future will be shaped by the companies starting out today, and we can’t wait to partner with them on the journey.”
Reshma Sohoni, Seedcamp Founding Partner, commented, “When we started out 15 years ago, we said Europe needed access to capital, basic knowledge on company building, and role models. Today, Europe’s needs have matured significantly, and it’s now all about speed, coverage, and quality, something we pride ourselves on at Seedcamp and that we know resonates with both our Founders and LPs.
Taavet Hinrikus, Co-founder of Seedcamp-portfolio company Wise and Seedcamp Angel LP, commented, “Seedcamp has been an incredible partner in building Wise from the earliest days to becoming a public company. I’m excited to back Seedcamp Fund VI as a repeat LP, continue to be part of the strong and ever-growing Seedcamp Nation, and co-invest in the next generation of world-class entrepreneurs building in Europe.”
Will Neale, Founder of Grabyo and Seedcamp Angel LP, commented, “I have directly co-invested in over 40 angel deals alongside Seedcamp and think the team and their investment performance is one of the best in class worldwide. I am thrilled to double down on my commitment as an LP for Fund VI. Seedcamp’s flywheel effect and their decision-making and operational excellence uniquely position them to identify the next generation of exceptional founders, and I’m excited to co-invest alongside the team in many more impactful companies with this new fund.”
