UK investors often struggle to access high-growth startups due to economic uncertainty and the high costs of early-stage investing. Albion Capital’s three VCTs help by providing tax-efficient ways to invest in breakthrough technologies.

They just closed an oversubscribed £90 million top-up offer. The raise exceeded the initial £60 million target, triggering the £30 million overallotment facility in December 2025 due to strong demand.

Funds will focus on deeptech, healthcare, and B2B software companies, building on recent portfolio successes such as Quantexa, Oviva, and tem.

Backing founders who are reshaping entire industries, and giving them the long-term capital to do it

Albion Capital was established in 1996 by Patrick Reeve, who led Close Ventures at Close Brothers before a 2009 management buyout that created the independent firm. Reeve, a chartered accountant with corporate finance experience at Cazenove & Co and Close Brothers, aimed to back visionary UK founders in high-potential sectors.

Albion’s mission is to back companies that don’t just last, but actually move the needle, delivering top returns and real-world impact across UK software, healthcare, and deeptech. It invests in a diversified portfolio of about 70 unquoted UK growth companies, focusing on B2B SaaS, digital health, fintech, and deeptech at inflexion-point funding stages.

Albion’s key strengths include a 30-year track record with more than 100 exits, including Booking.com. They target a 5% annual NAV dividend and have delivered solid returns: 6.5% average per year over five years and 6.9% over ten years (to June 2025, before tax relief).

Unlike pure venture capital funds, VCTs offer 30% income tax relief (up to £200k), tax-free dividends, and capital gains tax exemption. They also provide diversified and liquid access through their listing on the London Stock Exchange.

This makes them different from competitors like Octopus Titan VCT, which focuses on larger, higher-risk growth, ProVen VCT, a generalist, and Mobeus Income & Growth VCT, which focuses on income.

What’s next?

The £90M is heading straight into a pipeline of UK scale-ups. Over the last three years, Albion’s helped 64% of its portfolio companies make the leap from growth to scale-up. The focus stays on deeptech, healthcare, and B2B software, with recent wins like Gravity and TransFICC leading the way.

With £1B in assets under management (about £700M in VCTs), Albion’s gearing up for more fundraising and exits.
