Skarper, a London-based startup that transforms regular bikes into high-performing eBikes in seconds with its patented DiskDrive technology, has secured an additional £4 million in funding.
This is the second funding round in less than 12 months for Skarper, bringing the total amount invested in the company to £8 million.
The funding round was led by the Hong Kong-based Starry Group and Mobilitech Capital (also backed CaPow), along with several business angels.
Turning regular bikes into high-performing eBikes
Co-founded by Ean Brown, Skarper’s DiskDrive technology is a ground-breaking, click-on, click-off eBike drive system that drives the bike via the rear disc brake.
The first-of-its-kind, patent-protected disc-brake drive system has been developed by a London-based start-up in Camden.
Skarper’s invention has generated tens of thousands of inquiries globally since the news was first announced in June 2022.
The company’s innovative technology lowers barriers to owning high-quality eBikes and reduces waste.
Skarper’s ambition is to see its DiskDrive disc brake fitted as standard from the factory on millions of bicycles globally.

Sir Chris Hoy, a six-time Olympic, and 11-time World Champion cyclist is a shareholder in the business and has been part of the development process from the outset.

Currently, the company employs 14 people including mechanical and electronics engineers as well as product designers.
