Wayve has raised an extra $60 million in its Series D round, with AMD, Arm, and Qualcomm Ventures now on board. This follows the $1.2 billion Series D announced in February 2026, which attracted investors including NVIDIA, Microsoft, Uber, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and Stellantis, valuing the company at $8.6 billion. In total, Wayve has now raised about $1.5 billion.
Wayve was founded in Cambridge in 2017 by Alex Kendall and Amar Shah, both machine learning PhD students at the University of Cambridge. Shah left in 2020, and Kendall took over as CEO. The company believes that end-to-end AI trained on real-world driving data is more adaptable than the map-based, sensor-heavy approaches used by Waymo and Mobileye.
Wayve stands out by using end-to-end AI, making its technology compatible with different hardware, and offering a licensing model that lets automakers use it without changing their supply chains. The main risk is that companies like NVIDIA, Mobileye, or a group of automakers might develop a competing software stack before Wayve can scale.
Why are the chip companies investing?
Automotive computing is one of the fastest-growing areas in the semiconductor industry, and whichever company’s AI Driver gets adopted most widely will help decide which chips go into future vehicles.
NVIDIA’s Jensen Huang pointed out that robotaxis are the company’s second-biggest growth market after AI data centres. By investing in Wayve, AMD, Arm, and Qualcomm gain early access to integration work, ensuring their platforms work well with Wayve’s AI Driver and making it easier for automakers to use Wayve on their current hardware.
In March 2026, Wayve and Qualcomm announced they would work together to deliver a pre-integrated AI Driver on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride platform, using Wayve’s Active Safety software. This new investment deepens that partnership.
The $60 million from AMD, Arm, and Qualcomm will support integration across these platforms and fund joint go-to-market initiatives as Wayve moves from AI research to large-scale production deployment.
