Current search and analytics tools handle static data points well but fall short on dynamic, high-velocity information. They can’t keep up with constant updates or deletions, leaving teams to jury-rig searches with caches and dashboards for any real work, which means delayed answers, shaky setups, and stale facts.
Berlin-based SereneDB fixes that by merging live search power with OLAP crunching all in a PostgreSQL setup, so data flows in real time, tough queries finish in milliseconds, and everyone from engineers to AI uses plain SQL.
Today, the startup has raised $2.1 million in pre-seed funding, led by Entourage and High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), to build a new kind of real-time search and analytics database for modern data and AI applications.
Andrey Abramov, co-founder at SereneDB, says, “We have grown from a personal project in 2014 into the exceptional team we are today. Our shared purpose has always been to make true real-time analytics a reality. Partnering with Entourage and HTGF gives us the resources to turn this goal into reality, and we appreciate their trust as we deliver on our mission.”
Fixing the gaps in today’s search and analytics tools
Founded in 2025 by Alexander Malandin, Andrey Abramov, and Valery Mironov, SereneDB is building an open-source database that combines real-time search and analytics, reducing data duplication and improving performance. The company aims to provide an easy-to-use solution for searching and analysing data, transforming how applications manage and access information.
Malandin tells TFN, “For over 10 years, we have been passionate about search technologies, and in this time, we recognised the need on the market after seeing the limitations of existing tools in real-time analytics. So this is both personal and professional.”
Unlike ClickHouse, TimescaleDB, or Elasticsearch, SereneDB blends real-time search, OLAP, and OLTP into a single Postgres-wire-compatible engine. Its technology combines a search engine with modern OLAP capabilities under the familiar PostgreSQL environment.
SereneDB also supports real-time data ingestion, updates, and deletes, and can return complex results in milliseconds. This lets teams and even AI agents ask better questions using fresh data without stitching together multiple tools.
SereneDB’s team previously created the world’s fastest enterprise-grade C++ search library, and is now applying that expertise to build the next generation of data infrastructure.
What about diversity?
When we asked about diversity, Malandin notes, “Our core team is currently three founders, all male. We are actively looking to expand and prioritise diversity in future hires.”
What’s next?
The company is committed to an open-source development model, allowing the wider data community to help shape the product and benefit from its progress.
Pieterjan Bouten, Founder and Managing Partner at Entourage, says, “Unlocking this data foundation paves the way for a wave of new applications. SereneDB is building that infrastructure, and they have the grit to see it through.”
Hendryk Hosemann, Senior Investment Manager at HTGF, adds, “SereneDB is redefining AI-memory infrastructure with search and analytics accessible to everyone through PostgreSQL. It’s incredibly rare to find a team that is both able and daring enough to build at this depth, and we’re proud to back them as they redefine what modern databases can deliver.”
