Startup in spotlight: Qovery raises $13M to simplify cloud app deployment

Paris-based DevOps automation platform Qovery has raised $13 million in a Series A funding round at a post-money valuation of $ 45 million. The round was led by IRIS, with participation from Speedinvest, Crane Venture Partners, Techstars, Irregular Expressions, and a number of well-known angel investors.

These include Datadog cofounders Olivier Pomel and Alexis Le-Quoc, Docker co-founder Sebastian Pahl, and Checkout.com CTO Ott Kaukver, who also joins Qovery’s board of directors.

All previous backers from the company’s seed round also returned to support the Series A. Qovery has raised a total of $18M across pre-seed, seed, and Series A rounds, including non-dilutive financing.

Why Qovery?

Frustrated with the challenges of infrastructure and the difficulty of finding DevOps talent, the founding duo, Romaric Philogène and Pierre Mavro, decided to join forces and founded Qovery through the Techstars 2019 accelerator program.

“A common problem in the DevOps ecosystem is that it is highly fragmented. Despite the existence of powerful tools from cloud providers like AWS and specialised platforms like Grafana, there was no single, unified solution that could handle the entire DevOps workflow. This created a huge amount of complexity, requiring deep skills that are hard to find,” says Romaric Philogène, co-founder and CEO of Qovery, to TFN.

Breaking the bottleneck

Launched in 2020, Qovery simplifies application deployment and infrastructure management by automating everything across different cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure, Scaleway) and on-premises Kubernetes environments. This enables teams to keep full visibility and control over their costs while avoiding vendor lock-in common with PaaS solutions.

Additionally, this approach reduces setup times from weeks or months to as little as one day, with installation taking just five minutes and requiring no significant DevOps expertise or resources.

On average, customers achieve 3× DevOps efficiency, significantly accelerating deployments while reducing the need for additional DevOps resources. This lets DevOps and development teams focus more on important tasks that benefit the business.

“Furthermore, our platform is designed with a strong focus on security and compliance, such as SOC 2 and HIPAA, which is a critical requirement for our customers, especially those in highly regulated sectors like fintech and healthcare,” explains Philogène.

Competitors

Qovery operates in the modern PaaS and Kubernetes-based developer platform space, where it faces competition from several players.

On one side are established platforms like Heroku, known for their simplicity but often limited by ecosystem lock-in. Newer players like Render cater to specific needs well, while tools like Northflank and Porter aim to make infrastructure management easier.

“What makes Qovery stand out is its ability to deliver a seamless developer experience without sacrificing enterprise-grade flexibility. While a tool like Heroku locks you into its ecosystem, Qovery provides multi-cloud support and gives teams the ability to manage their infrastructure with fine-grained control,” continuous Philogène.

“We really excel at enabling key workflows like environment cloning and preview environments, making us the ideal choice for teams that need both agility and a robust, scalable foundation,” he adds.

What’s next?

Looking ahead over the next three to five years, Qovery’s focus is on fully automating the DevOps journey.

“We’re moving beyond a simplified platform to a solution that provides 100% of the workflow for our customers. A key part of this is the continued integration of AI to automate complex and manual tasks and provide intelligent, predictive insights.”

On the market side, Qovery plans to strengthen its footprint in both the US, which already represents about 60% of its business, and in Europe, which accounts for the remaining 40%.

“To support our ambitious goals, we plan to significantly grow our team and strengthen our business efforts across engineering, sales, and marketing. This will allow us to accelerate our product roadmap and effectively execute on our global expansion plans, solidifying Qovery’s position as the go-to solution for DevOps automation,” concludes Philogène.
