European countries are making hefty increases to defence budgets. Earlier this year, France announced it would be doubling its defence budget by 2030 compared with 2017, while Germany has also committed to meeting its benchmark of 2% of GDP. Within months of this announcement, a defence AI company Helsing raised €209 million funding. Now, London-based defence tech startup Labrys Technologies has snapped $5.5 million in seed funding.

The round was led by Project A Ventures (backed ARX and Quantum Systems) with participation from international DefenceTech-focused investors, including MD-One, Offset Ventures, Marque Ventures, and Expedition Fund.

The company intends to use the funds to scale its engineering team, grow its commercial team, and focus efforts on executing its roadmap of technical feature integrations, including the early-stage building of an Autonomous Mission Network Capability.

Connects people with rescue teams

In today’s digitally connected world, major Defence and Commercial entities struggle to coordinate the secure verification, tracking, tasking, and payment of a global workforce of teams, networks, and communities on the ground. This results in huge economic wastage, operational risk, over-reliance on unverifiable open-source data sets, and the inability to sustain key human relationships at scale.

Solving this problem, the London startup is building the world’s first software platform. It integrates user verification (KYC), location-based tracking, encrypted communications, task management, geo-located media overlay, and digital payments within a secure unified application.

Founded in 2019 by August Lersten and Luke Wattam with deep experience in military technology applications and operations, Labrys is building a Command and Control (C2) Software Application for Defence and Dual-Use cases to coordinate secure verification, tracking, tasking, and payment of a global workforce of teams. This platform enables Defence and Commercial entities with access to manage and coordinate a globally distributed workforce through a single interface in a more secure, faster, and compliant way.

Labrys’ technology platform has proven to be an indispensable tool with the ability to connect individuals with rescue teams, share vital information, and facilitate safe passage was nothing short of remarkable. This AI-enabled solution will provide customers with the ability to fully automate how they build, sustain, task, and coordinate a global digital workforce of any size.

“The success of our seed funding round is a testament to the dedication and dynamism of the Labrys team. We are excited about the potential to drive innovation in defence technology and the global development and commercial sectors”, said August Lersten, Co-Founder and CEO of Labrys Technologies.
