Danaher co-founder backs Lawhive’s $60M push into fragmented US legal market

The US consumer legal market brings in $200 billion each year, but research shows that up to $1 trillion in legal needs go unmet due to high costs, court delays, and inefficient systems. Many people avoid getting help with family law, landlord issues, or work disputes because services are slow and expensive.

Lawhive addresses these problems as the world’s first AI-native law firm. With 450 lawyers in the US and UK, they use a custom AI system to reduce paperwork and provide faster, more affordable legal help.

The company just raised $60 million in Series B funding, led by Mitch Rales, co-founder of Danaher. Other backers include TQ Ventures, GV (Google Ventures), Balderton Capital, Jigsaw, Anton Levy, and LTS.

This comes after a $40 million Series A last year. Their annual revenue has now grown to over $35 million, a sevenfold jump in just 12 months.

So, how are they changing the game for law firms?

Lawhive’s story started in 2019, when founders Pierre Proner, Jaime van Oer, and Flinn Dolman saw talented lawyers drowning in paperwork, while everyday people gave up on getting legal help altogether.

Lawhive introduced its AI-native model in 2023 to update law firm operations and replace old software. Last year, they bought UK-based Woodstock Legal Services to test the model on a larger scale, proving it works well in a market full of small firms still using manual processes.

Lawhive’s key advantage is its AI operating system, which includes “Lawrence,” an AI paralegal. Lawrence helps draft documents, do research, manage cases, handle client intake, and process payments, all while working with human lawyers. It works in real time, not just giving quick answers like a chatbot.

Unlike Rocket Lawyer, LegalZoom, Clio, PracticePanther, Harvey, and Casetext, Lawhive’s agentic AI thinks several steps ahead, offers fixed pricing so there are no surprise bills, and provides full workflow automation that cuts case handling from weeks to days.

What’s next?

This funding will help Lawhive expand across the US, open more offices, and reach all 50 states quickly. They plan to improve their AI system by adding features to handle more complex cases and to make it easier for lawyers to work together.
