Telemedicine means the remote diagnosis and treatment of patients by means of telecommunications technology. Have you ever seen a family doctor examine a cold without a stethoscope or temperature measurement? MedKitDoc on a 3-pillar model: The combination of digital medical devices (“MedKit”), highly qualified specialists and a user-friendly app to enable remote consultation for elderly and chronically ill patients.

€7M investment

Now, the telemedicine platform has raised €7 million in seed funding. This round comes after it secured €1.7 million funding in April this year.

The investment came from Vorwerk Ventures, Acton Capital, and existing investor Picus Capital, FlixBus founders Daniel Krauss and Jochen Engert.

MedKitDoc will use the fresh funds to grow its team and further develop its software. The company wants to offer a one-stop solution for chronically ill patients with an increasing number of diseases. Also, it intends to reduce the documentation effort for physicians.

“MedKitDoc will significantly change the way chronically ill people receive medical care in the future. The startup does not only think from the perspective of patients, but also considers the feasibility for institutional partners such as insurance companies, care facilities and, last but not least, doctors. That’s why we are convinced of the MedKitDoc team and look forward to embarking on this exciting journey together,” said Sascha Günther, Principal at Vorwerk Ventures.

“Innovation in telemedicine and healthcare requires a combination of different competencies: Medical and software expertise, as well as a clear focus on the benefits for patients. This is the combination we see in the MedKitDoc team and we are very much looking forward to the joint journey” explained Christoph Braun, Partner at Acton Capital.

Next-gen telemedicine made easy

The German platform improves the access to medical care, especially for chronically ill and elderly patients. It does this by combining the MedKitDoc app with a network of trained specialists and their ‘MedKit’. Notably, MedKit is a set of certified medical devices. This lets MedKitDoc enable a new way of remote and timely consultations. Besides this, the platform lets local or family doctors examine and treat more patients remotely, thereby preventing unnecessary hospitalisations.

Furthermore, the Berlin-based startup brings increased flexibility by letting patients book doctor’s appointments conveniently from anywhere. Also, it lets them avoid long waiting times and make appointments outside of the usual consultation hours. By avoiding crowded waiting rooms with other sick patients, it significantly reduces the risk of infection. Using connected medical devices, the platform enables patients listen their heart and measure your blood pressure, among others.

What does MedKitDoc do?

The digital health startup offers telemedicine of the next generation, which enables digital physician treatments such as diagnostics via the platform and a combination of connected medical devices, highly qualified specialists and a user-friendly app for patients and doctors.

MedKitDoc sends Bluetooth-enabled diagnostic devices such as a digital stethoscope, blood pressure monitor or thermometer to the patient. Their measurement results are transmitted via app to the doctor in real-time to provide treatment via video chat.

Notably, the app for doctors and patients enables a secure and encrypted connection during treatment.

“All measured values from devices such as the ECG will be automatically integrated into the doctor’s letter during treatment, and the time-consuming documentation during treatment will be significantly reduced,” said Dorian Koch.

Timely access to medical care

Based in Berlin and Hannoversch Münden, MedKitDoc was founded by two brothers Dr. Benjamin Gutermann, a former emergency physician and general practitioner and Dorian Koch, an specialist, former VW and McKinsey along with Nicolai Nieder, an impact entrepreneur.

The company’s goal is to provide easy and timely access to high-quality medical care for as many people as possible regardless of their location.

Already, MedKitDoc has established collaborations with over 50 care facilities in Germany including Korian, Deutsche Fachpflege and Curata).
