Unplanned machine downtime results in an estimated €500 billion in lost revenue each year for European industrial firms. Maintenance processes, especially in mid-sized businesses, are inefficient due to outdated systems and manual workflows. remberg offers a scalable, mobile, and AI-powered maintenance platform that integrates seamlessly with existing IT infrastructures. The platform enhances maintenance workflows, even for companies that already use maintenance software.

Today, Nuremberg, a Munich-based software company, has secured €15 million in a Series A+ funding round. Acton Capital from Munich and Oxx from London led the round, including existing investors Earlybird, Speedinvest, and Fly Ventures. The funding will support Nuremberg’s European expansion and further development of its AI-driven maintenance platform, which helps industrial companies prevent costly unplanned machine downtime.

To date, remberg has raised €28 million in funding from Acton Capital, Oxx, Earlybird, Speedinvest, Fly Ventures, and angel investors, as well as the founders of Personio, Forto, and Celonis. The company serves over 150 customers, including companies from the Würth Group, SCHUNK, Brandt Zwieback-Schokoladen, Edding, and Minimax Fire Solutions, who collectively manage over 1 million assets through the platform.

Transforming European industrial maintenance for the digital age

remberg was founded in 2018 by four entrepreneurs — David Hahn, Julian Borg, Cecil Wöbker, and Hagen Schmidtchen — as a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich and CDTM. The founders met while studying at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Centre for Digital Technology & Management (CDTM), a joint institute between TUM and LMU Munich known for fostering successful startups.

The founding team observed that digital adoption in mechanical engineering lagged 10 to 15 years behind other industries. They identified a significant gap: European industrial firms relied heavily on outdated systems or manual processes, like paper and Excel, to manage after-sales, maintenance, and asset-related operations. This dependence led to inefficiencies and substantial costs from unexpected machine downtime.

remberg’s core mission is to help industrial companies digitise and optimise their service and maintenance processes for physical assets, including machines, equipment, buildings, and vehicles, through a cloud-based, AI-driven software platform. “We are building the leading maintenance platform in the AI era to safeguard the competitiveness of the European industrial sector,” says David Hahn, CEO and co-founder of remberg.

Their “XRM System” (Extended Relationship Management) platform focuses on assets rather than just customer relations. It speeds up service requests and maintenance tasks, enables digital planning and documentation of work orders, ensures mobile accessibility and IT infrastructure compatibility, implements AI-driven predictive maintenance to prevent unplanned downtime, and strengthens audit readiness and regulatory compliance.

The broader mission is to secure European industry’s future competitiveness by reducing costly downtimes, increasing productivity, and driving digital transformation, particularly for medium-sized enterprises.

How remberg prevents costly downtime with AI

remberg distinguishes itself with an AI-powered platform designed for maintenance and operations teams. The software maximises asset availability, prevents unplanned downtime, and ensures audit readiness through AI-driven predictive maintenance and workflow optimisation. Its “AI Copilot” feature proactively helps teams eliminate unplanned downtime and advance maintenance capabilities.

Unlike traditional solutions — MaintainX, UpKeep, and Limble — remberg is built mobile-first, providing complete functionality on smartphones and tablets, including offline access. This is essential for field teams working in areas with limited connectivity. The platform features a modern, intuitive interface that’s easier to adopt than legacy CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems) or ERP modules.

“Europe’s industrial sector needs homegrown solutions. We can’t afford to hand over this software category to the US, especially when it involves the backbone of our economy: manufacturing, industrial assets, and sensitive data. That’s where Remberg comes in,” says Hahn.

When equipment malfunctions, factory floor operators can simply scan a QR code to instantly access a built-in AI chat assistant through the Remberg software. The system provides precise troubleshooting instructions based on the machine’s history and existing data, enabling faster issue resolution.

With more than 1 million assets already managed through Remberg, the company is establishing itself as Europe’s emerging leader in next-generation Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Enterprise Asset Management (EAM).

Philip Edmondson-Jones, Partner Oxx: “remberg is fast becoming an indispensable system of record for the maintenance departments of Europe’s forward-thinking industrial companies. We’re thrilled to support their team to bring remberg’s market-leading AI capabilities across the continent.”

Julius Lühr, Partner at Acton Capital in Munich: “remberg helps European industry to optimize its operations. In the current geopolitical situation, machine availability and competitive costs are more important than ever – remberg provides the digital infrastructure for this.”
