Why London Tech Week 2024 is the UK’s can’t-miss tech event

Like every year, London Tech Week 2024 promises to be a landmark event in the UK tech scene, showcasing the latest advancements and fostering collaboration across the tech industry. This year’s agenda, spanning from June 10th to 14th, offers a comprehensive program brimming with insightful keynotes, panel discussions, workshops, and exhibitions. Let’s delve into the key themes and highlights attendees can expect and you can buy the tickets over here.

Day One: Unveiling the power of AI

The event kicks off with a focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Leading the charge is Dr. Nicola Hodson, IBM UK & Ireland Chief Executive, who, alongside clients, will discuss real-world AI applications and their impact on businesses. Francesca Arese Lucini, Head of Insights and Data at Founders Forum & Tech Nation, will present insights on the UK’s position within the global AI landscape. 

The day continues with fireside chats and panel discussions exploring AI’s potential and challenges. Experts will delve into how AI and science can collaborate, anticipated advancements in AI technology, and how businesses can leverage AI for innovation and resilience. Ethical considerations and the need for regulations to ensure responsible AI use will also be addressed. 

In addition to AI, other critical tech domains will be explored, including quantum technologies, healthcare transformation, cybersecurity, and addressing the talent shortage in the tech sector. Startups will have opportunities to showcase their innovative ideas to potential investors and partners, with exhibitions highlighting cutting-edge advancements across various tech sectors.

Day Two: The UK on the path to science & tech superpower status

The second day promises a thought-provoking exploration of the UK’s potential to become a global leader in science and technology. High-profile leaders will share their insights through keynote addresses, panel discussions, and fireside chats. 

The morning session on the Main Stage kicks off with a panel discussion on “The UK’s Pathway to Science & Tech Superpower,” exploring strategies and initiatives to propel the UK to the forefront of the global tech landscape. Following this, a fireside chat on “Information and Influence: A New Era of Propaganda?” will examine the challenges and opportunities presented by the evolving media landscape.

Keynote addresses on topics like “The Future of Immersive Storytelling” will explore the transformative power of immersive technologies in storytelling and their potential to revolutionise narratives. Additional sessions will cover the future of fintech, sustainable business practices, AI’s impact on the energy sector, and the role of technology in transforming the sports industry.

The Founders Stage offers a program specifically tailored to entrepreneurs, starting with a keynote on “Ukraine’s Tech Renaissance: Pioneering Investments and Cultivating Unicorns to Become Europe’s Next Tech Powerhouse.” Panels will discuss selecting the right location for a startup, building a successful business, and developing compelling investor narratives.

The Corporate Innovation Stage focuses on the intersection of technology and business. Sessions will explore fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, the new era of collaboration, leadership and governance with AI, and balancing innovation and regulation to decide the future of AI. Practical applications of AI in business, ethical considerations, and leadership strategies for successful AI implementation will also be discussed.

The Pitch Stage provides a platform for startups to showcase their innovative solutions. HealthTech and ClimateTech companies will vie for recognition and investment. Workshops on crafting a strong LinkedIn profile and navigating tax complexities of scaling a tech company will offer valuable insights for entrepreneurs.

Day Three: Charting the course for a technology-driven future

The final day of London Tech Week 2024 promises to be a stimulating conclusion, offering a deep dive into the ever-evolving technological landscape and its impact on various facets of our lives. Attendees can expect a day packed with thought-provoking discussions, insightful fireside chats, and inspiring keynote addresses.

Indro Mukerjee, CEO of Innovate UK, will set the tone with a keynote address on the future of innovation within the UK. A fireside chat on “The Future of Healthcare” will bring together Shobie Ramakrishnan, Chief Digital and Technology Officer at GSK, and Kate Smaje, Senior Partner at McKinsey Digital, to discuss the transformative potential of technology in revolutionising the healthcare sector.

Social entrepreneurship will take centre stage with a fireside chat featuring Anousheh Ansari, CEO of XPRIZE Foundation, and Steve Blank, the Father of Modern Entrepreneurship. This session will explore the role of social entrepreneurship in driving positive change and fostering a better future.

The boundless potential of space exploration will be highlighted in a session titled “Unlocking the Potential: Exponential Growth in Space,” featuring Mark Boggett, CEO & Managing Partner of Seraphim Space, and John Serafini, CEO of HawkEye360. Gaming enthusiasts will enjoy a panel discussion on “The Future of Gaming,” moderated by Ryan Browne, Tech Correspondent at CNBC, featuring Hilmar Petursson, CEO of CCP Games, and Isabelle Henriques, Co-CEO & COO of Klang Games.

Continuing the focus on fostering a thriving tech ecosystem, the Main Stage will host a panel discussion on “The Power of Nurturing People – How to Inspire Talent, Growth & Innovation,” with insights from Hanno Renner, Co-founder & CEO of Personio, Hayaatun Sillem CBE, CEO of Royal Academy of Engineering, and Jane Thier, Reporter at Fortune. Cameron Adams, Co-Founder & Chief Product Officer of Canva, will deliver a keynote on “AI and the Future of Creativity and Work,” exploring the transformative impact of AI on creativity and the future of work.

The afternoon will offer a wealth of insights across all three stages. Discussions will focus on the impact of technology on leadership, featuring Ann Francke OBE, CEO of Chartered Management Institute, Karima-Catherine (KC) Goundiam, Founder & CEO of B2BeeMatch, and Ann Hiatt, Founder of Hipergiant.

The Founders Stage will cater specifically to entrepreneurs, offering sessions designed to equip them with valuable knowledge and strategies. Steve Blank will return to share his insights on “The Future of Entrepreneurship,” exploring the changing landscape of entrepreneurship and offering guidance for aspiring founders.

The Corporate Innovation Stage will focus on creative problem-solving and navigating labour shortages in the age of frontier tech. The day will be packed with a variety of other insightful sessions, workshops, and showcases, catering to a wide range of interests within the tech industry. Discussions will range from health tech and sports tech to workshops on building a successful career in tech and attracting diverse talent.

Fostering diversity and inclusion

This dedicated space will offer workshops and discussions addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) within the tech ecosystem.

Networking opportunities

The week will provide ample opportunities for attendees to connect with industry leaders, potential investors, and fellow innovators through networking events and the “Between the Bridges Bar” after-party.
