WALLROUND nabs €4.2M to franchise Europe’s energy renovation, eyeing a greener, swifter future

Europe’s energy renovation sector has long been surrounded by outdated, fragmented processes that stall the urgent transition to energy-efficient buildings. WALLROUND, a Berlin-based startup founded in 2024, is now rewriting the rules.

Backed by an oversubscribed €4.2 million seed round led by Revent, with impact fund GGF and continued support from Vonovia, Europe’s largest landlord, WALLROUND aims to build the continent’s largest tech-enabled renovation franchise.

Founders forged by property and purpose

WALLROUND’s CEO and co-founder, Lukas Steinhilber, is a seasoned entrepreneur who previously founded Vehiculum and successfully scaled it to over €300 million in annual GMV.

Alongside Lukas, the founding team includes Tatiana Wotzasek, CPO, with 13 years of product experience across global markets, and Henning von Oesen, Managing Director and Head of Projects, who brings over a decade of real estate and construction management expertise. The team actively values diversity, with members hailing from Nigeria, Brazil, Russia, Slovenia, and Germany, fostering diverse perspectives in shaping their vision.

In a conversation with TFN, Steinhilber explains: “I had bad experiences with tradespeople privately (quotes took ages, work was not finished, prices increased sharply after accepting the offer), and Henning knew the challenges first hand professionally.

We saw a paradox: energy renovations are a massive, subsidised, high-return market, but execution is painfully slow, low-quality, and fragmented. As entrepreneurs and operators, we couldn’t ignore this gap. We founded Wallround to make energy renovations simple, fast, and profitable.”

WALLROUND addresses a market problem. As Steinhilber told us, Germany is missing its building CO₂ targets by about 20% each year, with the built environment accounting for 40% of all emissions. To meet 2045 climate goals, roughly 2.5% of buildings must be renovated annually, yet current rates hover near just 0.7%. The construction industry faces declining productivity, wasting 35% of time on non-billable tasks, driven by fragmented players and minimal R&D investment.

What’s so special about WALLROUND?

Lukas stresses, “WALLROUND is building a full-stack, end-to-end solution for energy retrofits, which solves the actual problem: renovating buildings faster and more profitably. Our tech combines 3D building data, geospatial data, empirical data, and in-house pricing algorithms to calculate renovation costs, ROI, and CO₂ savings instantly. This is paired with automated workflows that connect every step in the building process: from property analysis to procurement to construction.”

Unlike competitors who offer only piecemeal services or traditional general contracting, WALLROUND positions itself uniquely at the intersection of construction and proptech, focusing on seamless process integration and tech-enabled end-to-end service, tailored for small and medium-sized landlords.

What’s next?

Looking ahead, Lukas shares their ambitious growth plan: “We will start expanding as of 2026 with a few selected target areas. In parallel, we´ll continue building our end2nd tech solution with a focus on optimising operators’ workflows. With both at hand, we will roll out our model with partners (franchisees) that want to join our mission but also want to be entrepreneurs. This will also be the model for European expansion, which will come right after.

Tatiana Wotzasek, reflecting on her role as a woman in the traditionally male-dominated construction and energy sectors, advises: “Construction and energy renovation are still very male-dominated industries. My advice: don’t let that intimidate you. Bring your expertise confidently, focus on delivering results and be bold – because innovation thrives on diversity.”
