Luxembourg-based climate impact verification startup, SustainCERT, has successfully concluded its largest capital raise to date, securing a significant $37 million. The funding round welcomed new investors, Partech and Hartree Partners, who join existing shareholders Citizen Capital, Innovacom, and Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund.

The funding will primarily support the company’s global expansion efforts and the launch of its groundbreaking climate impact verification platform.

The imminent launch of SustainCERT’s climate impact verification platform marks a significant milestone in the industry. The platform aims to bring credibility to companies’ climate impact claims by providing robust verification services. With the Series B funding, SustainCERT will further scale its value chain decarbonisation impact solution for Scope 3 emissions, as well as develop a digital verification solution tailored for carbon markets.

Since its establishment in 2018, SustainCERT has been on a mission to establish credibility in climate impact claims. Combining expertise in climate science with cutting-edge digital solutions, the company has been at the forefront of independent impact verification.

Marion Verles, CEO of SustainCERT, expressed enthusiasm about the funding and its potential impact on combating climate change. Verles stated, “This investment, our largest fundraising to date, will enable us to continue increasing the speed and accuracy at which climate impacts can be verified.” She emphasised the growth opportunities and the scaling of their innovative climate impact verification solutions for carbon markets and Scope 3 emissions.

The need for climate impact verification has become increasingly important in the fight against global warming. To achieve the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C and attaining Net Zero by 2050, a 45% reduction in emissions is required by 2030. SustainCERT’s solutions align with this pressing need, accelerating the speed, accuracy, and quality of data measurement used for carbon credits and greenhouse gas (GHG) impacts.

Partech’s Rémi Said expressed confidence in SustainCERT, stating, “We truly believe that SustainCERT… is very well positioned to become a carbon global champion.” This funding represents Microsoft’s continued commitment to SustainCERT’s mission of bringing credibility to climate action.

SustainCERT’s capital raise will be utilised to accelerate commercial, organizational, and technological scaling, supporting the growth of its pioneering digital climate impact verification platform. Additionally, the funding will further expand the reach of the Value Change Initiative, a forum that brings together major companies, civil society actors, and international frameworks to define best practices for Scope 3 emission reductions on a large scale.

As the climate crisis intensifies, SustainCERT’s funding and commitment to transparency, credibility, and accuracy in climate claims are welcomed. With their innovative platform on the horizon, the company is poised to drive significant positive change in the industry.

SustainCERT, established in 2018 as an independent organisation by Gold Standard, provides impact validation and verification services for carbon markets and value chains. Its approach aligns with leading international sustainability frameworks such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Gold Standard, and the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

The company recently launched the world’s first software platform for digital verification and management of climate claims across carbon markets and value chains, aiming to accelerate the measurement of carbon credits and GHG impacts. SustainCERT is also a co-founder of the Value Change Initiative, which focuses on defining best practices for Scope 3 emission reductions at scale.
