Belgian AI startup Runeasi has raised €1 million in fresh funding to expand its running and movement analysis platform worldwide. The round was led by Smarter Ventures, with continued backing from Freshmen Fund and Gemma Frisius Fund. Runeasi’s founders also joined the round, alongside Silicon Valley angel investor Sean Gourley, bringing international capital into the Leuven-based company.

The new capital will support Runeasi’s next growth phase, with a strong focus on international expansion, especially in the U.S., where demand is growing fastest. At the same time, the company plans to continue investing in Belgium, where it has built long-standing customer relationships.

“We are proud and grateful for the continued trust of our existing partners and the enthusiasm of several new investors. This funding enables us to speed up our next growth phase. We will be able to expand internationally at a faster pace, with a particular focus on the United States, where we see the strongest demand and fastest growth. At the same time, we remain committed to the Belgian market, where we have built strong customer relationships over many years,” explains CEO Kurt Schütte.

2025 was a milestone year for Runeasi. The company launched a new Jumping Module, extending its platform beyond running to assess explosiveness and reactivity for athletes in other sports.

It also expanded its role as an education partner through podcasts and accredited training programs for physiotherapists in Europe and North America, including collaborations with Physiotutors.

Founded as a spin-off from KU Leuven, Runeasi helps physiotherapists, coaches, and speciality running stores analyse how people run and jump, quickly and without expensive lab equipment.

What does Runeasi do?

Founded by Kurt Schütte and Tim Op De Béeck, Runeasi uses an AI-powered motion sensor to capture biomechanical data while someone runs or jumps. Within minutes, the platform turns this data into a clear, personalised report with practical insights for injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance improvement.

Instead of relying on complex cameras or lab setups, professionals can perform high-quality analyses in everyday clinical or retail settings. This makes advanced movement analysis more accessible and easier to use.

Runeasi is already active in more than 40 countries and has been used for over 50,000 running analyses. The United States is currently its largest market. The platform is also used by major sports footwear brands to support fast, objective product testing and strengthen scientific validation.

“Runeasi builds exactly the type of software we like to invest in: a strong combination of deep domain expertise, proprietary data, and innovative AI. Their product is intuitive to use and mission-critical for customers. This perfectly aligns with our belief that the most successful AI companies create a flywheel that drives sustainable growth and innovation,” says Anton Loeffen, Managing Partner at Smarter Ventures.

“As an experienced runner, I was immediately impressed by the product. As an investor, it was the strength of the team that truly stood out. The founders have a sharp understanding of their customers, make thoughtful product decisions, and are driven to learn and improve every day,” adds Kristian de Lange, Managing Partner at Smarter Ventures.
