Oracle is reportedly in advanced talks with Meta over a cloud computing deal worth about $20 billion. If finalised, the partnership would provide Meta with crucial computing capacity to accelerate its AI ambitions.

Meta’s drive for computing power

Meta’s interest in Oracle highlights the company’s aggressive push to scale its infrastructure for training and deploying advanced models. The social media giant has already leaned on cloud providers like Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet, but surging demand has made diversification essential.

With billions of users across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, Meta requires enormous computing resources not only to power everyday operations but also to experiment with next-generation technologies. Tapping into Oracle’s infrastructure could provide the speed, reliability, and flexibility Meta needs as it races to keep pace with competitors.

Oracle’s cloud momentum

For Oracle, the prospective partnership underscores the company’s dramatic rise in the cloud space. Once known primarily for enterprise software, Oracle has rapidly expanded its cloud infrastructure business, winning some of the biggest contracts in the sector.

Just last week, it was reported that OpenAI signed a $300 billion agreement with Oracle, making it one of the largest deals in cloud history. Oracle’s integrated technologies and flexible deployment models have proven attractive to customers seeking scale and stability.

Its collaborations with Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet, allowing their customers to run Oracle Cloud Infrastructure alongside native services, have already boosted revenue sixteen-fold in the first quarter alone.

A new era in the cloud race

The potential Meta contract comes amid a companies like OpenAI and xAI commit billions to secure long-term access to computing power.

Oracle announced four multi-billion-dollar deals just last week. The company has also hinted at more mega contracts on the horizon. If Meta joins the roster, it would further cement Oracle’s position as a major player in the ongoing battle to dominate cloud infrastructure.

With negotiations ongoing, the industry is watching closely. A finalised $20 billion deal between Oracle and Meta would not only shift market dynamics but also signal how vital computing power has become in shaping the future of technology.
