Dutch startup Nuwa, which invented the world’s most advanced pen that digitises your handwriting on paper, has secured €1.5 million. The investment came from a leading US consumer goods company. With this, Nuwa’s total seed funding raised last year accounts for €2.5 million.

This investment will carry the Nuwa Pen through its final development process while it prepares for its launch to customers in March 2024. It will also significantly strengthen Nuwa Pen’s foundations as it moves into the production process.

AI-powered pen

Despite all the innovation around digital pens that write directly on screens, many people continue to take manual notes and love the creative freedom of being able to express themselves wherever and whenever the mood takes them. This is where the Nuwa Pen comes was designed for anyone who feels most comfortable with a pen and notebook in hand.

Nuwa was founded in 2020 in Groningen, the Netherlands by Marc Tuinier and was launched during the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2023. Back then, Marc first met the investors, who immediately saw the potential of the Nuwa Pen.

The Nuwa Pen uses an inbuilt camera system and cutting-edge algorithms that capture every stroke you make on paper. It then stores your creations, helping you keep them in one place. You can save and share millions of notes digitally and keep them organised and accessible through the Nuwa Pen app. Once your content is digitised, you can also benefit from the augmented notes feature, which is like having a personal assistant that puts you on top of your schedule.

Nuwa Pen is an AI-powered ballpoint pen with its own digital notepad application. Launched via Kickstarter last year, this pen is said to come with many features and uses D1 ink cartridges, and recharges in a meagre 15 minutes. As per the company, it is supported in over 100 applications and synchronises your notes digitally as high-quality searchable notes.

“It’s clear there is a lot of buzz around Nuwa Pen, so we can’t wait for it to go to market,” Marc Tuinier, the founder of Nuwa Pen said. “I’m immensely grateful to our investors. Right from the start, they have bought into our vision, and moved very quickly to ensure we have the funding in place to take the Nuwa Pen through the production process and into people’s hands.”
