The legal industry has long been seen as slow to adopt new technology. However, mounting demands for speed and accuracy have highlighted serious shortcomings in the tools lawyers use, especially when dealing with complex, cross-border work.
Founded in 2023, Lexroom is tackling these challenges head-on. The Milan-based startup uses advanced AI technology to help law firms and corporate legal teams conduct research, draft documents, and provide advice, all while adapting to the legal nuances of different countries.
Lexroom announced today that it has secured $19 million in a Series A funding round led by Silicon Valley’s Base10 Partners. The round also brought in Spanish venture firm Acurio Ventures, Diego Piacentini’s View Different fund, Riccardo Zacconi, and several strategic angel investors.
This latest investment follows a €2 million seed round just six months ago, which itself came after an initial €500,000 pre-seed raise. The fresh capital will support Lexroom’s plans to expand rapidly across Europe and continue refining its product.
In an exclusive conversation with TFN, Paolo Fois, co-founder and CEO of Lexroom, confirmed, “We have raised 22 million USD in total,19 million USD with our Series A and the remaining
between seed and pre-seed.”
A true partner, capable of navigating the nuances of diverse legal landscapes
Behind the startup are three co-founders: Paolo Fois, Martina Domenicali, and Andrea Lonza. Together, they set out to modernise legal workflows and make expert legal knowledge more accessible and efficient for law firms and in-house teams across multiple jurisdictions.
Fois shares, “The motivation for starting Lexroom came from a clear market need. With the rise of large language models, we saw an opportunity in the legal sector, where research and repetitive tasks take up huge amounts of time. Most existing AI tools were too generic and not adapted to the hyper-localised needs of legal professionals.
The idea was born in a venture builder, where the three of us met, and Martina brought the
initial insight: combining advanced AI with highly localised legal data could transform legal
work. From there, we validated the concept and built Lexroom to give professionals back
their time and focus.”
AI models trained on the European legal data
Lexroom’s platform leverages AI models trained specifically on legal data from multiple European countries, addressing a key weakness in many legal tech products that rely on outdated or generic datasets. The result is a tool that delivers precise, jurisdiction-aware insights at speed, while safeguarding sensitive information.
Fois explains to TFN, “We developed a proprietary database with over 5 million sources and a ‘hyper-localised’ approach to adapt to different jurisdictions. We don’t provide generic output: every document produced with Lexroom is legally sound, with precise references tailored to the context, that lawyers can check, deep dive and cross-reference.”
Lexroom also combines deep legal domain expertise with cutting-edge AI, serving as a key differentiator compared to competitors, including Harvey, Legora, Luminance, CoCounsel, and the German startup Noxtua.
Fois adds, “Lexroom.ai stands out for its vertical specialisation in the Italian and EU legal frameworks, he depth and reliability of its integrated sources, and the ability to serve both solo
practitioners and large corporate legal teams with equal effectiveness”
This focus on real-world usability has earned Lexroom trusted partnerships with major clients, including Osborne Clarke, Fastweb, Satispay, and Mediolanum, as well as leading law firms such as Gatti Pavesi Bianchi Ludovici, Ichino Brugnatelli & Associati, and WST Law & Tax Firm.
The company currently serves roughly 1,500 legal professionals and is fast approaching €1 million in recurring annual revenue. Its tight-knit team of 15 keeps the product agile and responsive, with many users logging in daily.
What’s next?
Looking ahead, Lexroom is targeting Germany and Spain for immediate expansion, aiming to localise its platform further to navigate distinct regulatory environments. The co-founders remain focused on their broader vision: reshaping the legal profession through technology that makes legal work faster, smarter, and more accessible to all
Fois concludes, “Our long-term goal is to become the trusted AI partner for thousands of corporates and legal professionals worldwide, reshaping how legal services are delivered and creating tangible value for both firms and their clients.”
