In February, Stockholm became the epicentre of European innovation as Techarena 2026 unfolded at the Strawberry Arena. Sweden’s largest technology conference welcomed 12,000 founders, investors, policymakers and operators for two days of announcements and ecosystem-defining conversations.
Tech Funding News (TFN) attended on the ground as Europe’s startup and venture community gathered in force. Throughout the event, discussions centred on cross-border collaboration, AI infrastructure, enterprise adoption and the Nordics’ growing strategic role in Europe’s tech expansion.
A recurring narrative highlighted Stockholm’s deep connectivity to Silicon Valley and its proven global scaling track record. Swedish companies, including Klarna, have delivered a strong pipeline of IPOs in recent years, reinforcing the country’s position as a European innovation leader.
The presence of former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson further elevated discussions around competitiveness, sovereignty and Europe’s strategic future in global technology markets.
As highlighted in TFN’s preview coverage of the event, Europe’s startup and VC crowd had compelling reasons to head to Stockholm this February and the scale of announcements justified the momentum.
Below are five defining moments from the Stockholm conference held during Feb 11-12.
Mistral AI: €1.2B infrastructure commitment

The highlight moment came from Mistral AI, which confirmed a €1.2 billion investment into Swedish AI infrastructure. Announced live at Techarena, the commitment ranks among Europe’s largest AI infrastructure investments to date.
Mistral will partner with EcoDataCenter to deploy large-scale compute infrastructure, with operations expected to begin in 2027. The move marks Mistral’s first infrastructure expansion beyond France and underscores the Nordics’ rising role in Europe’s AI race.
In conversation with Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, CEO Arthur Mensch emphasised, “Every country or community needs to have a way of building AI that it can control and that it owns the technology for […] Sweden has access to great clean energy, and AI is about transforming energy into intelligence. It has everything it needs to build large data centres.”
Techarena & VivaTech form a bridge between ecosystems

A defining cross-border announcement at the conference was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Techarena and VivaTech.
The agreement is designed to create stronger structural ties between the Nordics and France, opening new pathways for collaboration between startups, investors and policymakers. The signing reflected a broader theme at Techarena 2026 as Europe is scaling through partnership rather than fragmentation.
French Ambassador to Sweden, Carlier Thierry, posted on social media: “Proud to be at Techarena for the announcement of a €1.2billion investment by MistralAI in a new data centre in Borlänge: AI and decarbonised energy for innovation, autonomy and competitiveness, at the heart of a strategic partnership!”
He also posted: “And signature of a structuring agreement between Techarena and VivaTech: networking and ecosystems!”
Omid Ekhlasi, CEO and Founder of Techarena, says: “We are delighted to sign this MOU with VivaTech, bringing closer collaboration between two of Europe’s leading, most dynamic and fastest-growing technology ecosystems.”
Station F: The launch of F/ai

Founded by Xavier Niel, Station F took to the Techarena stage to unveil F/ai, a Europe-built AI programme designed to produce globally competitive companies. Positioned as a launchpad for high-potential early-stage AI startups, the initiative aims to give founders the structural backing needed to scale beyond regional markets.
Unlike traditional accelerators, F/ai consolidates an entire AI ecosystem into one coordinated platform. It brings together major technology companies, AI research labs, semiconductor players, cloud providers and leading venture capital firms under a single framework. The ambition is to remove friction between infrastructure, capital and expertise, giving founders immediate access to the tools and networks required to grow quickly.
Select startups gain hands-on support, technical resources, exposure to senior leadership teams and access to international markets. The structure is built to help companies move from prototype to global scale with fewer bottlenecks.
Companies involved include Microsoft, Meta, Mistral AI, Google, AWS, Hugging Face, Lovable, OpenAI, Clay, Anthropic, AMD, OVHcloud, Snowflake, Cloudflare, Qualcomm and G42. On the investment side, Sequoia Capital, General Catalyst, Lightspeed, Seedcamp, Kima Ventures, 20VC, Motier Ventures and Drysdale Ventures are part of the coalition.
Epiminds: Winner of the TOP46 pitch competition

Techarena’s flagship TOP46 competition once again spotlighted emerging talent. Five standout startups pitched live on stage, competing for the top prize.
Epiminds, founded by Elias Malm and Mo Elkhidir, was announced as the winner by football icon Zlatan Ibrahimović. The startup is building a marketing operating system powered by multi-agent AI teams, orchestrating autonomous agents across data, creative and strategy functions.
The other finalists showcased at Techarena are:
- BrainLink, developing the world’s first remote and fully wireless brain pressure monitoring system for hydrocephalus patients.
- DREV AB, a cleantech hardware company capturing critical metals wasted in advanced manufacturing facilities.
- QTPIE, creating a smartphone-based automated road testing platform approved by governments.
- Optise, an AI-driven B2B website optimisation platform improving performance and conversion automatically.
The diversity of sectors, such as healthcare, cleantech, mobility, enterprise software, reflected Techarena’s broader ecosystem strength.
Winning TOP46 secures Epiminds a place at the Techarena Challenge in Almedalen this summer, extending its growth journey.
Normain: Enterprise AI gains ground

Beyond the main stage, enterprise adoption stories dominated investor conversations.
Stockholm-based Normain announced it had signed one of the Big Four consulting firms to deploy its Extractional AI platform organisation-wide. The deal marks a major milestone for the company as it prepares for global expansion.
Normain’s approach focuses on structured document analysis with full traceability, targeting use cases in audit, governance, sustainability reporting and compliance. CEO Sara Landfors emphasised that the platform is purpose-built for professionals who require precision and accountability.
The announcement underscored a broader shift: enterprise buyers are moving beyond experimental AI pilots toward specialised tools embedded in core workflows.
“We just signed an agreement with one of the Big Four who wants to roll out Normain broadly to every function in the company,” said Sara Landfors, CEO and Co-founder. “The traction we’re seeing is a testament to the fact that we’re putting something unique on the market, and the timing couldn’t be better for a public launch. We’re ready to take market share globally.”
Stockholm’s growing role in Europe’s tech ecosystem
Techarena 2026 demonstrated that Stockholm continues to strengthen its position as a strategic node within Europe’s innovation landscape.
With billion-euro AI commitments, cross-border partnerships, enterprise breakthroughs and emerging startup talent, the event underscored Europe’s increasing cohesion and ambition.
For TFN, attending Techarena offered a close-up view of a continent building with confidence and increasingly scaling together.
