happyhotel has secured €6.5 million in Series A funding to accelerate its growth across Europe. The round was led by Reimann Investors, with continued backing from Start-up BW Innovation Fund (managed by MBG Baden-Württemberg), seed + speed Ventures, and the family office Wecken & Cie..
Detailing to us at TFN, Rafael Weißmüller, co-founder at happyhotel, stated: “For now, we would not like to share our current valuation in public.” However, they revealed that “We have raised a total of €8.8 million to date.”
The fresh capital will primarily fuel European expansion and accelerate the development of happyhotel’s commercial AI agent.
Built for Europe’s independent hoteliers
Independent hotels across Europe are facing mounting challenges. Operating costs continue to rise, demand fluctuates unpredictably, and staffing shortages stretch already thin teams. At the same time, reliance on online booking platforms intensifies competition and compresses margins.
Detailing the pain point they address, Rafael stated, “We’ve conducted several case studies with our customers that clearly show the main challenges hotels are facing today: staff shortages, rising costs, intense competition, and strong dependence on OTAs. Many hotels simply don’t have the internal resources or know-how for professional revenue management.”
happyhotel positions itself as a counterweight to that pressure.
Further, Rafael added, “We support hoteliers with automated price optimisation by combining artificial intelligence with human revenue expertise. On average, our customers increase their revenue by around 15% after implementing happyhotel. We currently optimise the pricing and distribution of more than 50,000 hotel rooms across 12 countries. Through our platform, we manage over €1 billion in annual hotel revenue.”
How was the idea born?
Founded in 2019, happyhotel was created by three entrepreneurs who saw an opportunity in a fragmented market. It was stated, “happyhotel was founded by Sebastian Kuhnhardt, Marius Müller, and Rafael Weißmüller.
Rafael added, “The idea started during Sebastian’s final thesis at hotel management school. He realised that many hotels struggle with unclear and inefficient pricing structures. He began experimenting with pricing models in Excel and quickly saw the potential of data-driven, dynamic, and automated pricing. He tested these approaches in his parents’ hotel and achieved his first revenue management successes there. Around that time, the three of us met in Offenburg. Marius and I knew each other through our shared passion for football, and Sebastian and I had previously worked together.”
He further explained, “What connected us was our entrepreneurial mindset and a strong desire to solve real challenges in the hospitality industry. It became clear very quickly: the problem is huge, and the market is ready for a real solution. Marius and I brought experience in software development and startups, so together we built the first prototype. That prototype became our first product, and in October 2019, we officially founded happyhotel and all joined full-time.”
Diversity statistics
Talking about the diversity, “We currently have 45 employees across two locations, our headquarters in Offenburg and an additional office in Munich. 30% of our team members are female, and increasing diversity, especially in tech and leadership, is an ongoing focus as we scale.”
He further stated, “Our team combines hospitality expertise with strong technical backgrounds in software engineering and data science. We hire for ownership, accountability and a long-term mindset, which is also reflected in our company values. While retaining and attracting our top talent we‘ve also decided for English as a company language.”
Plans ahead
Detailing the plans for the next year, Rafael said, “Over the next 12 months, we will lay the foundation for our evolution from a revenue management software to an autonomous Commercial AI agent. During this phase, we will expand our AI capabilities step by step, enabling the system to increasingly support our customers in pricing and distribution decisions and gradually take over more complex tasks.”
He said, “The agent will analyse market and demand data in real time and continuously integrate the expertise of our internal revenue management team. At the same time, we are accelerating our European expansion, with a strong focus on entering the UK, French, and Austrian markets.”
“We are not building our system for the revenue manager – we are automating the tasks of a revenue manager,” explains Rafael Weißmüller, CEO of happyhotel. “Our goal is to enable professional revenue management for every hotel and fully automate the selling of hotel rooms so hoteliers can focus entirely on their guests.”
“happyhotel brings together everything we look for at this stage: an experienced founding team, a scalable product with measurable customer value and a large market that has still only been partially tapped,” says Hans-Christian Perle of Reimann Investors. “Rafael and his team have convincingly demonstrated that they deeply understand the hospitality industry and can translate its requirements into a powerful solution. We look forward to supporting happyhotel as an active sparring partner in the next growth phase.”
