In the COVID pandemic era, video is a way of life and everyone has a mobile phone in their pocket. For those who don’t have experience on their CV or a gap in work, gigl, a London video-based job platform, lets you create TikTok-like 60-seconds of video of yourself and connect with employers.

Secures investment from big names

Now, gigl has secured $1.5 million seed funding in a round led by Cerebrum Tech alongside participation from OxBridge Angels, Campden Hill Capital and others, including serial events industry entrepreneurs and the former CFO of Deliveroo. gigl will use the funds to grow its marketing coverage, expand its user base by targeting SMEs and grow its tech offerings.

This funding came at a great time for gigl as it gears up towards the Christmas season and New Year recruitment drive. Reportedly, the hospitality sector has over 200,000 open roles across the UK alone and gigl will use the investment to evolve much faster across the UK and plan for international expansion.

Yasrine Ibnyahya – Head of the Investment Committee at OxBridge Angels added “this is a great time for OxBridge Angels to support gigl. They have a great team, the concept has been proven and they are seeing huge demand. We look forward to supporting them during this high growth phase of the journey, and fully believe it’s time for the recruitment process to evolve”

Taylan Durmus of Campden Hill Capital stated, “Almost all businesses have taken advantage of the efficiencies that tech has enabled but HR has lagged behind. We believe that Gigl will finally bring the way people are hired into the 21st century and are thrilled to support them on this journey.”

Solving hospitality staffing shortage

gigl is working on a mission to change the way people find and apply for work. The mobile and video first platform lets employers combine the application, telephone screening and first round of the interview into a 1-minute video.

Dan Hudson, Christian Ayerst, and James Hudson founded gigl in 2018 with the desire to reshape the recruitment market with its video-based platform. It aims to deliver a fast, friendly, efficient and fun recruitment process for everyone. The platform is touted to reduce the time taken to complete the recruitment process by up to 80 percent. Its process is truly engaging for everyone involved in it.

Through video, gigl allows potential candidates to express their true self when finding work and saving the employer’s time and money. Already, the platform is used by employers such as Tortilla, Subway, and Hard Rock Hotel.

Recruitment under 24 hours!

The HR tech startup works towards solving the staffing situation across retail, hospitality, and events in the UK. Employers can hire by just watching short videos from candidates rather than going through their CVs. This lets them shortlist applications at a faster rate. Furthermore, employers have witnessed reduced staff turnover and no-shows as applications have a better understanding of the role that they are applying for.

It eradicates the traditional CVs, no more backwards and forwards messages to organise interviews, and every candidate that applies is highly informed of the role that wants to work there. Especially, the Gen Z candidates are using the platform to secure their first job. Also, it promotes ongoing opportunities for career development after giglers have secured their first job on the platform.
