According to a study, 28% of would-be entrepreneurs in the UK ended up not starting their own businesses as a result of the complexity involved. By putting everything founders need to run a business in one place, The Netherlands-based Vev aims to relieve that burden. Founded by former Apple employees, Vev has raised €5 million from European VCs Notion Capital (which backed Apperio and Mews) and Point Nine Capital.

As a result of this funding, Vev‘s catalog is expected to expand rapidly to over 250 business types. They have also introduced Vev+, a paid subscription service that will be available in the spring to further simplify the way people work.

Michel Elings CEO and co-founder of Vev added, “Starting a business can be overwhelming, which causes potential entrepreneurs to stop before they’ve even begun. That’s exactly what we want to change at Vev. We have created the first platform where people can run any type of business on. We are still building out our catalog of business types, and we will work with a founder in any industry to support their business”

Ricardo Sequerra from Point Nine added: “Vev is capturing the workflow of merchants across verticals and over time will disrupt not only pen and paper but ultimately the physical POS with a software-only approach. The horizontality of the tool also enables Vev to cater to very underserved segments who haven’t been the focus of traditional software vendors.”

Chris Tottman from Notion said: “Vev provides a “business in a box” software for the self-employed, a global market of nearly 3 billion users. We’ve been very impressed by their deep understanding of their target audience and how it translated into a powerful yet highly intuitive product.”

Entrepreneurship accessible to everyone

Vev, founded in Utrecht, in the Netherlands by Michel Elings, Jeroen Janssen and Thijs Zoon, aims to make entrepreneurship more accessible to everyone.

Using Vev’s software is free, and access to their online academy is included. By providing ready-made industry-specific software and payment tracking, it enables aspiring entrepreneurs to launch their own business. The platform provides founders with all the tools they need to start trading and launching more than 100 types of businesses.

As of now, the company has spoken with over 350 business owners from various industries to understand their everyday problems.
