Salt Lake City–based legal tech startup Filevine has just closed $400 million in all-equity funding across two rounds over the past 15 months. Insight Partners led the first round, with a larger follow-on co-led by Accel and Halo Fund alongside Insight Partners. Previous backers, including Meritech, Stepstone, Run Ventures, and Album Ventures, also participated.

With the new capital, Filevine plans to supercharge product innovation, deepen its reach within enterprise and government sectors, and continue recruiting top engineering and AI talent to redefine legal workflows.

Expanding scale and AI adoption

Founded by former litigator Ryan Anderson, Filevine emerged from a mission to tame the chaos of disconnected legal tools. Its Legal Operating Intelligence System embeds AI into the heart of daily practice, unifying emails, texts, deadlines, deposition videos, transcripts, phone logs, documents, and calendars into a single platform that powers case management, document automation, billing, compliance, and analytics.

“Some early versions of legal AI forced lawyers to work in two systems: their systems of record and their AI tools. But that framework isn’t what the market demands. Filevine embeds intelligence into the DNA of daily legal work, with the first true legal operating intelligence system. Every task a legal professional completes should be augmented with intelligence,” said Ryan Anderson, Founder & CEO of Filevine.

Filevine’s scale is hard to ignore: nearly 6,000 customers and 100,000 legal professionals rely on the platform, uploading more than 20 million pages of documents daily. Its retention metrics, 96 per cent gross retention and net dollar retention north of 120 per cent, reflect both deep adoption and expanding account value.

What’s next?

Investors point to Filevine’s native AI as the company’s secret sauce. Its cross-platform AI chat tool is experiencing a 20 per cent week-over-week growth in usage, and AI-driven revenue is up roughly 130 per cent year-over-year. In contrast to competitors like Clio or MyCase, which offer AI features bolted onto existing products, Filevine weaves intelligence into every workflow, delivering real-time insights instead of siloed outputs.

Rebecca Liu-Doyle, Managing Director at Insight Partners, added: “Filevine has proven its ability to sustain tremendous growth while simultaneously capturing new opportunities and markets. We at Insight are highly impressed with Ryan and team, and we’re excited to double down with Filevine as they continue scaling into this next chapter.”

Ryan Smith, Co-founder of Halo Fund, said: “During diligence, we saw Filevine’s AI products have heavy daily usage, with over 20% week-over-week growth in their cross-platform AI-chat tool. With about 130% YoY AI revenue growth, users told us they are deriving real value from Filevine’s integrated AI products.”

As the legal tech market matures, Filevine’s unified, AI-driven platform positions it as a clear leader in its category. With fresh funding in hand, the company is poised to accelerate its mission: transforming fragmented legal processes into intelligent, connected workflows that boost efficiency, insight, and outcomes for law firms and legal departments alike.
