The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions heavily relies on the adoption of electric vehicles, and there is a growing trend among businesses and governments to shift their vehicle fleets entirely to electric. However, effectively managing electric vehicle fleets for various purposes such as ridesharing, leasing, rental, delivery, civic operations, or shipping presents unique challenges.

San Francisco-based Standard Fleet resolves these challenges and helps fleet businesses manage their electric vehicles. The company works with the mission to help electric fleet businesses of all kinds automate, secure, and scale.

$7M funding to grow further

Now, Standard Fleet has picked up $7 million in seed funding in a round led by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar’s UP2398 fund, and Canvas Ventures. It also witnessed the support from esteemed investors, including firms betting on the team for a second time, and over two dozen company founders who invested their money into Standard Fleet.

This investment will allow the company to grow its team, build new tools, and expand its impact by providing software that brings effortless efficiency to EV fleet operators, including Revel, MisterGreen Electric Lease, and EV Access.

“I’ve known David for more than 10 years and seen him operate successfully across three companies. With Standard Fleet, David is tackling a market that is underserved by software and he is hitting on a megatrend that he is uniquely equipped to handle, given his experience selling Embark to Apple and early work in the EV software field,” said Mike Ghaffary, general partner of Canvas Ventures. “Standard Fleet has a large opportunity to use software to make EV fleet management effortless and economical around the world.”

Standard Fleet: What does it do?

Founded by David Hodge in 2019, Standard Fleet helps fleet companies, including rental car businesses, rideshare companies, leasing fleets, and many others scale their use of electric vehicles. Standard Fleet has been working with EV fleet operators across the US as well as Europe to economically accelerate the adoption of EV fleets.

The Standard Fleet app has interactive maps, customisable alerts, charging automations, expense reports, and anti-theft features that help operators save time, cut costs, and scale their businesses.

How does it work for EV fleets?

Standard Fleet has collaborated with innovative EV fleet customers as they scale up and use its fleet management software to streamline their operations. It generates insights from nearly 100,000 electric vehicles, and these range from engineering work done to pull data from vehicles without draining their batteries to simplifying vehicle provisioning for drivers with an API.

Revel, a Brooklyn-based electric mobility and infrastructure provider, operating hundreds of blue rideshare EVs in New York City uses Standard Fleet for fleet access and management.

MisterGreen Electric Lease, an Amsterdam-based pioneer in EV leasing, manages over 5,000 Teslas in Europe. Standard Fleet is working with MisterGreen to scale up their operations, reduce costs, and stand up new lines of business.

Lastly, EV Access is a fast-growing EV rental and leasing business in Arizona. They use Standard Fleet’s advanced telemetry tech to manage guest access and charging expenses for their growing fleet of electric cars.

“Electrifying the rideshare industry will have an outsized impact on reducing urban emissions, so figuring out how to operate all-electric fleets at scale is critical,” said Revel Co-Founder & COO Paul Suhey. “Standard Fleet is helping us manage our fleet and get our employee drivers on the road faster, providing zero-emission trips to New Yorkers.”

“EVs have five times longer lifespans than gas-powered vehicles have,” said Mark Schreurs, Co-Founder and Chief Vision Officer of MisterGreen. “We help provide accessible, fully-operational Tesla leases. Standard Fleet EV management software helps us get more people in electric cars.”

“I’m growing my EV fleet from a few dozen Teslas to nearly 1,000 EVs and couldn’t imagine doing it without the help of Standard Fleet. They’ve been a lifesaver already,” said Justin Pappan, founder and CEO of EV Access.
