US-based Deciens Capital has announced the close of its third fund with $93.33 million in limited partner commitments, bringing the firm’s total assets under management to $290 million. This reflects the strength of its investment strategy, the calibre of founders it supports, and the consistent returns delivered through earlier funds.
Fund III: A new chapter, same core focus
With Fund III now closed, Deciens has already deployed capital into four startups: Grupago, Generous Energy, June Point Lending, and an unnamed company still in stealth. The firm expects to back 12 to 15 companies in total and anticipates deploying the fund over the next 2–3 years, continuing its hands-on, high-conviction approach, which includes leading or co-leading rounds and aiming for meaningful ownership stakes of 10–20%. Deciens also reserves significant follow-on capital, typically allocating up to 50% of fund size for follow-ons to support portfolio companies through later stages.
The fund’s footprint remains global, spanning the US, Latin America, and Africa, but the core remains fintech with a disciplined eye on new infrastructure, distribution models, and untapped markets. Deciens invests mainly at the seed and Series A stages.
A fund built on discipline and depth
Founded in 2017 by Dan Kimerling, Deciens was created after realising that financial services are the foundation of modern society, and reshaping them requires both intellectual depth and operational discipline. Over the last eight years, the firm has remained focused on early-stage fintech, investing across categories and geographies from core banking and embedded finance to lending, insurance, and compliance.
Deciens’ first two funds have validated this thesis. Both are top-quartile performers by TVPI, with Fund I ranking in the top decile for its 2018 vintage based on a benchmark 2.29x TVPI (Q1 2025 data); both funds have shown strong DPI and IRR relative to peer benchmarks (specific numbers confidential, but above-market by industry standards).
Early wins and standout investments
The Deciens portfolio features a growing list of high-performing companies across the fintech landscape. Early investments include:
- Chipper Cash – a cross-border payments leader in Africa
- Treasury Prime – enabling embedded finance via APIs
- Tint – powering insurance-as-a-service infrastructure
- GlacierGrid – risk management for energy-intensive businesses
- Sydecar – automating venture deal operations
- beatBread – financing tailored for musicians based on streaming data
These companies exemplify how Deciens backs category-defining founders with bold ideas and strong execution.
An evolving approach to AI in fintech
While Deciens doesn’t chase trends, it does evolve with conviction. The firm recently published The Realities of AI Investing, outlining its measured approach to the space. For Deciens, the true value of AI isn’t in flashy models but also in embedding AI into financial products to transform underwriting, fraud detection, customer service, and operational efficiency.
Many of Deciens’ portfolio companies are already doing this, using AI to create faster, smarter, and more personalised financial tools. This integration is now central to the firm’s strategy as it deploys Fund III.
Staying true to the mission
With Fund III, Deciens reaffirms its founding vision: invest with focus, operate with discipline, and support founders building durable companies. The new fund and expanded team mark a confident step forward, but one that remains rooted in a thesis proven over time.
To the founders, LPs, and partners who’ve made this journey possible, Deciens extends its gratitude and looks ahead to the next wave of transformation in financial services.
“Deciens’ concentrated approach lets me do what I love: operate and support incredible founders who know the terrain and are serious about building. I’ve been on the other side, and I know firsthand how much real partnership can matter in the early days. That’s what we aim to provide,” said Vishal Rana, Partner, Portfolio & Operations.
“Fundraising is just the starting line. What matters most is how you show up afterward. At Deciens, we partner early, stay close, and operate as a true extension of the founding team, working shoulder-to-shoulder to help build durable companies,” stated Ishan Sachdev, General Partner.
“I started Deciens with the core belief that focus isn’t a constraint; it’s a superpower. It gives us clarity in a complex, noisy space. With Fund III, we’re doubling down: investing early, going deep, and supporting founders with the insight only sustained focus makes possible,” added Dan Kimerling, Founder & Managing Partner.
