Independent waste hauliers, many of them family-run, play a vital role in keeping cities clean and communities functioning. Yet, despite operating within a $1.6 trillion industry, many still rely on outdated, paper-based systems that hinder efficiency and growth.

Recognising this challenge, CurbWaste was founded in 2020 by Michael Marmo, who drew on his own experience running a waste hauling business in New York City. He set out to create a technology platform tailored specifically to the needs of independent hauliers.

“We built CurbWaste to level the playing field for hauliers, giving them the modern tools they’ve long deserved to run more efficiently and compete under challenging conditions,” says Mike Marmo, CEO and Founder of CurbWaste.

Today, the New York-based startup has raised $28 million in Series B funding, bringing its total capital to $50 million. The funding round was led by Socium Ventures, backed by Cox Enterprises, with participation from Flourish Ventures, TTV Capital, B Capital Group, and new investor Squarepoint.

With this fresh capital, CurbWaste plans to expand its team, strengthen its go-to-market strategy, and accelerate product development, particularly focusing on artificial intelligence and machine learning to address the complexities of the waste hauling industry.

Supporting America’s backbone businesses

Marmo explained to TFN, “CurbWaste is the first end-to-end integratable platform, with a deep focus on usability, flexibility, and real-world needs. What sets it apart is its operator-first design, ongoing co-development with customers, and the integration of AI and machine learning to tackle industry-specific challenges, from dispatch to compliance, while also delivering meaningful quality-of-life improvements for business owners and their teams. “

Today, CurbWaste supports over 150 hauliers across the United States, ranging from small family-owned businesses to larger regional operators. The platform’s seamless integration and user-friendly design set it apart from legacy and point solutions that often fall short on functionality and ease of use.

When asked about competition, Marmo said, “Unlike other solutions, CurbWaste was built with the little guy in mind. The goal is to level the playing field for hauliers, giving them the modern tools they’ve long deserved to run more efficiently and compete under challenging conditions. CurbWaste currently supports 150 hauliers across the U.S., from small family businesses to large regional operators. “

What’s next?

Looking ahead, CurbWaste aims to lead the waste hauling sector’s digital transformation with innovative AI and machine learning-powered tools to optimise route planning, automate compliance, and enhance customer engagement.

Marmo concluded, “The next three to five years for CurbWaste are all about growth, scale, and deepening impact. With this Series B funding, CurbWaste plans to accelerate team growth, expand go-to-market efforts, and invest heavily in product innovation to further streamline operations for hauliers.

The long-term goal is to continue levelling the playing field for family-run and independent waste businesses through scalable, modern software tailored to their unique needs.”
