AI can quickly create software code, but in important fields like defence, aerospace, and semiconductors, speed isn’t everything. Companies need to ensure that the code is accurate, secure, and safe before using it.
There’s growing concern about the gap between fast, AI-generated code and the strict standards required in these critical industries. Code Metal, a Boston-based software company, has raised $125 million in a Series B funding round at a reported valuation of $1.25 billion.
The round was led by Salesforce Ventures, with participation from Accel, B Capital, Smith Point Capital, J2 Ventures, Shield Capital, Overmatch, and RTX, among others. The new funding comes only months after the company’s Series A round.
“This new funding round marks an important milestone for Code Metal and validates our mission to close the trust gap in AI-generated code. AI can generate code at unprecedented speed, but in mission-critical environments, speed without proof is not enough; we are building the infrastructure that ensures software can be trusted before deployment, and with Salesforce Ventures’ partnership and Ryan’s firsthand expertise with these customers, we are scaling with the operational excellence this market demands,” says Peter Morales, founder and CEO of Code Metal.
The funding will help Code Metal expand its engineering team, accelerate product development, grow partnerships with both commercial and government clients, and enhance its marketing strategies.
Verifiable code translation
Founded by Peter Morales, Code Metal develops technology that translates and optimises software across programming languages and hardware systems while also verifying that the code meets required standards.
Its customers include Toshiba, RTX, L3Harris, and the United States Air Force. These organisations use the platform to move software between systems and improve performance in high-stakes environments.
Rob Keith, Partner at Salesforce Ventures, said in a statement, “AI code generation has hit an inflexion point: mission-critical industries cannot deploy what they cannot verify. Code Metal’s neuro-symbolic approach solves this by mathematically proving code is correct. The unprecedented adoption velocity drove our decision to lead the round; in just one year, demand has pulled Code Metal into programs of record across the U.S. Air Force, L3Harris, and more. Salesforce Ventures brings deep experience scaling enterprise platforms, and we are proud to back the team building the load-bearing infrastructure for this ecosystem.”
