Callidus Legal AI bags $10M to build AI co-pilot for litigators

Callidus Legal AI

The legal industry, often considered slow to adopt technology, is now at a critical inflection point. While firms face mounting pressure to reduce costs and increase productivity, core litigation tasks remain notoriously time-consuming. Legal professionals spend hours on precedent research, drafting, and document review, often relying on manual processes that haven’t evolved in decades.

This inefficiency is more than a productivity issue. Goldman Sachs estimates that 44% of the $1 trillion global legal industry is ripe for automation. Yet until recently, solutions have been limited to chatbots or surface-level tools that provide generic responses, lacking the depth and precision real litigators need.

Callidus Legal AI was built to address that gap. In 2025 alone, the company tripled its recurring revenue, validating the market’s hunger for real change. By condensing week-long legal work into minutes without sacrificing quality or control, it is positioning itself as the go-to litigation engine of the future.

Secures $10M funding to fuel growth

To fuel its rapid growth and expand its impact, Callidus Legal AI, based in McKinney, has closed a $10 million funding round. The latest raise brings its total funding to $13 million and underscores the confidence investors have in both the market potential and the team’s execution. This new capital gives the company the momentum needed to push even further into the $64 billion legal tech market and beyond.

Leading the round was Cervin Ventures, joined by notable investors including AI Fund, Myriad Venture Partners, Tandem Ventures, Active Capital, Capital Factory, Foley & Lardner, and a consortium of partners from a top 25 U.S. law firm.

With this fresh capital, Callidus plans to double its product development speed and expand support for its growing base of over 1,000 customers. It also plans to triple its team size in the coming months, with new hires in product, engineering, customer success, and legal AI research, focusing on its hubs in Texas and California.

The funding will also be directed toward building out the company’s end-to-end litigation platform—one that goes far beyond automation to empower lawyers with fully functional, high-quality legal outputs.

The idea behind the company

Callidus Legal AI was founded in 2023 by Justin McCallon, a former restructuring and M&A lawyer who saw firsthand how slow and costly litigation work could be. While consulting on legal tech initiatives, Justin connected with co-founders John Bohlmann and Laura Seamon, each bringing complementary expertise.

Their mission was to build a platform that keeps the lawyer in control while massively accelerating the tedious parts of legal work. They didn’t want to replace legal reasoning but wanted to supercharge it.

Together, the founding team blends deep legal experience with high-calibre software engineering and AI design. This multidisciplinary foundation has proven essential to building a product that understands legal nuance while delivering high performance and usability.

Unlike typical AI tools that generate vague or high-level summaries, Callidus delivers what litigators actually need: detailed legal outlines, exhaustive precedent research, and fully drafted, citation-rich documents ready for refinement.

In May, Callidus launched its most advanced legal research and drafting system yet. Powered by proprietary engineering and a deeply enriched case law database with over 10 million U.S. legal cases, the platform uses intelligent agents to tag and summarize cases with exceptional accuracy. This allows for near-instant, issue-specific document generation and legal research, all within a highly visual interface that lawyers can trust.

The system is designed to keep attorneys in the loop, making strategic decisions while letting the AI handle the heavy lifting. A task that used to take a week can now be 85% complete in just 10 minutes. And with tools fully integrated into Microsoft Word, attorneys can finish and file their court-ready drafts in record time.

A litigation co-pilot for every lawyer

Callidus Legal AI is building an operating system for litigators. With plans to launch new capabilities throughout the rest of 2025, the company is focused on transforming the entire litigation lifecycle from research to final drafting and beyond.

Armed with fresh funding, a fast-growing customer base, and a product that’s proven to deliver, Callidus is on track to redefine what’s possible in legal practice, bringing speed, accuracy, and strategy into the heart of every case.
