Berlin-based Unosecur grabs $5M to transform cloud identity management in the age of AI

As organisations grow, identities proliferate — not only employee logins but also service accounts, API keys, and AI agents. Identity has become the new security perimeter, a fragile and constantly evolving one. To address these challenges, Unosecur has pioneered the groundbreaking concept of a Unified Identity Fabric. This approach views identity security as disconnected elements and a cohesive end-to-end integrated fabric.

Today, Germany’s leading innovator in identity security, dedicated to securing human and non-human digital identities for modern enterprises, has successfully closed a $5 million Seed funding round, with an additional $3 million in oversubscribed commitments. The round was led by VentureFriends and DFF Ventures, with participation from Leo Capital, Heartfelt  (APX), and prominent angel investors.

With fresh capital and strategic backing, Unosecur plans to advance R&D for real-time threat detection, AI-driven risk analysis, and automated remediation; expand market reach with new customer engagements in North America, Europe, and beyond; and scale the team to accelerate product development, customer success, and go-to-market operations.

“This funding milestone fuels our ongoing mission to tackle the ever-changing ways identities are misused in hybrid environments,” said Santhosh Jayaprakash, CEO of Unosecur. “This investment validates our innovative approach and provides the resources we need to accelerate our platform’s development and expand our market presence.”

How Unosecur fills a significant gap in cloud security

Established in Berlin in 2021, Unosecur aims to revolutionise identity security. Santhosh Jayaprakash, a veteran tech entrepreneur with extensive experience in cloud consulting and cybersecurity, founded the company after his success with Ankercloud, where he applied his expertise in scaling cloud businesses to form Unosecur.

Unosecur was developed to fill a significant gap in cloud security, specifically regarding managing and safeguarding human and non-human digital identities (including service accounts, API keys, and AI agents) across both cloud and on-premises infrastructures. Jayaprakash and his team identified that identity has emerged as the primary security perimeter as more organisations migrate to cloud solutions. However, current solutions remain fragmented, leaving companies exposed to identity-related threats.

The founders noted that many businesses overlook essential security measures during cloud software development, particularly identity and access management. This observation fueled their vision for an integrated, AI-driven platform that offers real-time threat detection, automated remediation, and ongoing behavior analysis for various identity types without complex integrations or additional software agents.

Unosecur aims to reshape identity security by providing a comprehensive, agentless platform that consolidates identity management, risk detection, and automated responses. The platform seamlessly connects with leading cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), adheres to industry frameworks like MITRE ATT&CK, and ensures compliance through policy enforcement and no-code workflows.

The company is dedicated to crafting next-generation solutions that address modern digital threats and anticipate organisations’ evolving requirements. Unosecur’s innovative identity security strategy empowers businesses to protect their digital assets actively, fortifying their defenses against increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.

IAM fragmentation: A critical enterprise security challenge

It’s common for today’s identity and access management (IAM) systems to consist of 6 to 16 different tools working in isolation. This fragmented strategy leaves security teams with only partial insights into user access and inconsistent policy enforcement. When IAM systems fail to communicate efficiently, it results in inefficiencies and possible security threats. The rise of AI agents and AI-driven threats is compounding the issue, with the consequences already clear. As Gartner noted, by 2025, 75% of all security failures will stem from insufficient identity management.

Unosecur views identity security as a cohesive, integrated fabric rather than disjointed components. Unosecur’s AI-driven platform integrates human, machine, and AI-based identities across hybrid environments into a unified framework. Rather than functioning as isolated silos, all identity information, from employee accounts and cloud service roles to DevOps secrets and AI agent credentials, flows into a single intelligent system.

A key innovation is the incorporation of AI-driven intelligence throughout this fabric. Using sophisticated AI models, the Unosecur platform constantly monitors identity behaviors and access patterns. It learns the normal behaviors for each identity, whether human, machine, or AI agent, and can detect anomalies or risky changes, responding to them in real time. Through the effective integration of Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR), Identity Security Posture Management (ISPM), and AI capabilities in NHI management, Unosecur achieves proper comprehensive identity security.

Onur Can, Partner at Heartfelt Capital, stated, “Unosecur recognised the pressing need for agile, integrated cybersecurity solutions capable of managing human and non-human identities. Their exceptional platform, strong team and impressive client base position them for considerable growth.”

“Identity security is the weak link in cloud infrastructure, and Unosecur is developing the definitive solution at a pace that distinguishes them. Rapid adoption by major enterprises demonstrates that they are addressing a universal and imperative challenge. We’re thrilled to support a team redefining how identity threats are tackled at scale,” commented Maarten Engelen, Partner at DFF Ventures.

“Transitioning to a unified identity fabric encompassing all identity types, IAM, and Digital ID functionality is a strategic business necessity. Specialised, cloud-native IAM solutions are well-placed to leverage this trend, adding the missing features. Unosecur has already proven its ability to offer value beyond conventional IAM solutions. This seed funding round highlights that hybrid IAM is emerging as a distinct sector,” stated Martin Kuppinger, Principal Analyst at KuppingerCole.
