Organisations struggle with slow, fragmented analytics due to legacy BI tools that create data silos, require extensive IT support, and need constant data extraction. Astrato addresses these challenges with its cloud-native BI platform, which enables teams to build and share live, self-service analytics directly on their cloud data warehouse, eliminating data movement and providing users with instant access to up-to-date information.

Today, Astrato secured a $5 million seed round led by Big Pi Ventures, with participation from Propelling Tech Ventures and over 30 strategic angels from the global data and analytics community. The funding will support the expansion of its go-to-market and engineering teams while accelerating the development of AI-native features for exploration, automation, and intelligent decision-making workflows.

“Business intelligence is entering a new phase – beyond dashboards,” said Nick Kalliagkopoulos, Partner at Big Pi Ventures. “Astrato is helping teams do more with their data, faster. It’s a no-code execution layer the market has been waiting for.”

“We’re thrilled to back the Astrato team. They know this space better than anyone and are building exactly what’s needed: a powerful, modern BI layer built for the cloud and powered by AI,” said Alejandro Martinez, CEO at Propelling Tech Ventures.

Breaking free from traditional analytics constraints

Astrato, founded in 2023 and based in London, is led by CEO Martin Mahler, who brings over 20 years of expertise in data-driven technology and business intelligence solutions. The company was established by the team behind Vizlib, a successful Qlik visualisation add-on that achieved $22M in annual recurring revenue before its acquisition in 2023.

Astrato addresses the key challenges organisations face with traditional business intelligence tools. It provides flexible, real-time analytics directly on cloud data platforms, such as Snowflake, eliminating the risks and inefficiencies associated with data movement. The platform empowers users to explore and analyse cloud data where it lives, enabling faster, more secure, and democratised access to insights for better decision-making..

Cloud-native architecture and composable analytics

Astrato is warehouse-agnostic and integrates with cloud data platforms, including Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, and ClickHouse. Its composable architecture enables teams to quickly assemble and reuse modular components, including KPI tiles, write-back forms, AI summaries, charts, and filters. This makes it simple to build interactive data apps, publish live dashboards, update forecasts, and embed branded analytics in customer-facing products. The platform brings powerful, self-service analytics to non-technical users.

Astrato’s zero-copy, live-query approach ensures data never leaves the warehouse, maintaining security and compliance critical for regulated industries. The platform is ISO 27001 certified and SOC 2 Type 2 compliant, giving enterprises confidence in data governance and privacy.

Astrato is innovating business intelligence for the cloud-native era by integrating generative AI to enable natural language queries, automate insights, and create a semantic layer through conversational prompts. Its “BI Copilot” feature helps users generate measures, visualisations, and complete reports without coding, bridging the gap between technical and business teams.

Astrato is experiencing rapid growth, with 5x year-over-year revenue increases driven by increasing demand for modern, AI-powered analytics. Customers like IAG Loyalty have reduced their time-to-insight from weeks to hours. PetScreening, a US-based SaaS company, embedded Astrato into its core product to win new customers and double its user base, transforming market perception from a startup to a mature, product-led business.

How Astrato transforms analytics in a cloud-first world

As organisations adopt cloud-first data architectures, the limitations of legacy BI platforms, such as Qlik and Tableau, built for desktop-era reporting, become more apparent. While Astrato competes with modern business intelligence (BI) tools like Sigma, Omni Analytics, and Equals, it distinguishes itself through its cloud-native architecture, intuitive no-code interface, and unique write-back capabilities. Its usage-based pricing makes advanced analytics accessible to both startups and global enterprises, avoiding the licensing friction and price increases common with legacy vendors.

“Astrato is the execution layer of the modern data stack,” said Martin Mahler, CEO and founder. “It connects directly to the cloud and gives teams a unified space to explore, act, and collaborate on data without duplication, IT bottlenecks, or licensing friction. Unlike legacy BI vendors pushing continuous price hikes, our usage-based model means customers only pay for what they consume, making Astrato accessible for both lean startups and global enterprises.”

Astrato delivers on this vision with a live, no-code platform built to power the next generation of data experiences. As the execution layer for the modern data stack, Astrato combines live queries, AI-driven insights, writeback, and embedded workflows, transforming rigid dashboards into lightweight data apps that drive real-time decisions.

From revenue modelling in finance to performance tracking in marketing or customer-facing analytics in product, teams use Astrato to operationalise data faster. And because it runs directly on the warehouse and embeds wherever users work — internal tools, intranets, or SaaS products — Astrato delivers governed insights at the moment of action.
