Arizona-based wireless charging startup Aira picks $12M

The Arizona startup Aira — which aims to redefine wireless charging user experience with their product FreePower, recently raised a $12 million Series in a seed round.

While the investment was led by Motherson Innovations Company Limited, the emerging technology arm of the Motherson Group, a Tier 1 global automotive supplier based in India, several Arizona-based investors also participated in the round.

Founded in 2017 by Jake Slatnick and Eric Goodchild, Aira’s tech allows users to charge up to three objects simultaneously without fixing their position on a particular pad. Their in-car charging surfaces with FreePower charges devices are shifting around while driving.

The company aims to accelerate into the automotive, enterprise, and hospitality sectors with additional capital. Further, the startup also announced the appointment of Axon Chief Financial Officer Jawad Ahsan to its board of directors, who brings more than two decades of global financial strategy experience and public company leadership to the company’s board.
