Sloyd, an Oslo-based 3D design company, has just announced a €3 million seed funding round.
Major global investors, including SPEEDRUN, a16z GAMES’ gaming accelerator, Antler (which invested in Cedar and Quinky), the world’s most active early-stage investor and Skyfall Ventures, the Norwegian seed stage VC firm participated in the funding round. Other investors include FreshFund, AceCap, Hartmann Capital and a number of high profile angel investors.
In addition to this, the round included a strategic investment from Autodesk, a global leader in 3D design and make technology.
Sloyd plans to use the investment to develop AI solutions tailored to the needs of professionals in 3D, enhancing their workflows.
What challenge does it resolve?
3D modelling is one of the world’s fastest growing industries with creators quickly adopting new technologies. The market is expected to grow to a global value of $32 bullion in the next ten years. However, many are concerned about IP challenges when it comes to AI solutions in the design space.
This is something that Sloyd has solved by using its own created data.
Who is behind Sloyd?
Founders of Sloyd, Andreas Edesberg and Avi Latner, first met during an Antler residency in Oslo in 2021. They now lead a global team of 13 experts in gaming, AI and 3D modelling.
Andreas Edesberg has extensive experience in innovation strategy and creative industries, having held a number of senior positions at Deloitte Digital. Whilst Avi Latner has led product development at a number of fast-growth startups in the US and Israel.
What does it do?
Sloyd is on a mission to create the ultimate 3D creation platform, enabling creators to make 3D assets quickly and easily. Its aim is to transform productivity and creativity by significantly reducing the time and resources required to create game-ready 3D models and environments.
Additionally, Sloyd aims to expand the possibilities for user-generated content, enabling creators to easily customise and generate 3D assets and worlds, thus opening new avenues for innovation in game development, 3D printing, and digital content creation.
The platform’s blend of AI-driven prompting, parametric models, and real-time world generation is making high-quality 3D creation available for game developers, professionals in TV/Movie production and architectural visualisation. Sloyds unique solution promises to not only speed up creation time for professionals, but also allow gamers themselves to create 3D within games and XR experiences with no waiting time. It is already being used by some of the world’s largest gaming companies.
Andreas Edesberg, co-founder of Sloyd, commented, “We are honoured to be recognised by the foremost authority in 3D software and creative technologies. The backing of globally respected VC firms and global technology leaders such as Autodesk is invaluable as we endeavour to develop AI solutions tailored to the needs of professionals in 3D, enhancing their workflows.”
Kristian Jul Røsjø, Partner at Antler, commented, “Sloyd is harnessing AI to transform 3D creation for creators around the world. This is a fast growth industry that is attracting significant levels of investment and innovation. Sloyd have firmly positioned themselves as pioneers in this space and the investment is testament to their ambition and potential. We are delighted to have supported Andreas and Avi from day zero and have every confidence in their future success.”
What do we think about Sloyd?
The company has raised investment from impressive backers such as a16z, Antler, and Skyfall. This shows the confidence in its technology – AI-powered 3D design software. Also, Sloyd’s over 250.000 users signups is a true testament to this commitment.
