CodeRabbit, a San Francisco-based AI-powered platform automating the process of code reviews for developers, has snapped $16 million in Series A funding. With this, the total funding raised by the company accounts for $20 million.
The round was led by CRV that recently invested in Checkly and Encode, with participation from Flex Capital and Engineering Capital.
How will it use the investment?
CodeRabbit plans to use the new capital to expand its sales and marketing teams, currently consisting of 10 people. It will also focus on enhancing its product offerings, in the area of security vulnerability analysis.
In addition to the investment, Reid Christian, General Partner at CRV, will join CodeRabbit’s board of directors.
What change does it bring?
Code reviews done by peers will help developers improve code quality. However, the process is time-consuming. Reportedly, nearly 50% of the companies spend two to five hours a week on reviewing codes. Without enough resources, code reviews will be daunting and free up developers to focus on other important tasks.
With an AI platform automating code reviews, CodeRabbit helps developers save their time and effort while improving the quality of their code.
Who is behind CodeRabbit?
The company was founded by Harjot Gill, and Gur Singh in San Francisco. It’s co-founder Gill previously co-founded Netsil, which was later acquired by Nutanix. The other co-founder, Singh, previously led dev teams at white-label healthcare payments platform Alegeus.
What does the company do?
CodeRabbit has created a generative AI-powered code review tool, which is similar to human colleagues for developers. It automatically reviews the code they create, as it is written. It provides context-aware feedback on pull requests within minutes.
According to the startup, this tool can integrate with both GitHub and GitLab, providing continuous, incremental reviews of user’s code. The tool relies on machine learning algorithms that analyse each piece of code and identify any potential issues with it. The tool will also suggest improvements based on best practices and coding standards.
Initially gaining traction in the SMB and mid-market segments and having onboarded more than 600 paid organisations within a year of launch, the company is now expanding into the large enterprise market and is currently testing self-hosted versions of its platform and is conducting proof-of-concept (PoC) trials with several Fortune 500 companies.
CRV General Partner Reid Christian said “CodeRabbit is setting a new standard for code reviews with its AI platform. It’s technology is a game-changer, improving both the efficiency and reliability of code reviews across the software development industry.”
