AI models that rely on public data eventually hit a limit in what they can learn. For example, the internet can explain what a cardiologist does, but it cannot capture how they think through unusual cases. AfterQuery, founded in January 2025 by Spencer Mateega and Carlos Georgescu, was created to solve this problem.
AfterQuery’s main product is access to real-world expertise that you can’t find online. The company has brought in almost 100,000 verified professionals, including doctors, lawyers, financial analysts, and software engineers, and has built systems to record how they think through problems.
Today, the company announced a $30 million Series A round at a $300 million valuation. Altos Ventures led the round, with The Raine Group joining existing investors Y Combinator and BoxGroup. The company also says it has passed a $100 million annual revenue run rate.
AfterQuery offers two main products: high-quality datasets that capture expert reasoning in specific fields and training environments where AI models can practice decision-making in realistic professional situations. The company says that every major lab is now a customer.
Unlike typical data annotation or image labelling done by crowdsourced workers, this is structured reasoning that competitors can’t easily replicate or derive from public sources. Its direct competitors include Scale AI, which was valued at $13.8 billion in its last funding round, and Appen.
The $30 million will go toward three main goals: growing the expert network, expanding coverage across more industries, and building an enterprise solutions business.
