Czech home improvement startup Adam has snapped €3 million in late seed funding. The investment came from the European VC Brighteye, which invested in London startups Visibly and Zen Educate.
Expansion plans
The new investment will be used to strengthen their position in markets where the service is already successful. Additionally, Adam plans to expand into new cities and countries outside of Europe, broaden its offerings to new trades, and build a development team to enhance automation and further improve the customer experience.
“We are excited to support Adam’s mission to modernise a traditional industry which has seen no change for decades. While providing their clients with a hassle-free experience, Adam also facilitates continuous training and professional development for the craftsmen, empowering these professionals to expand their services and improve their competitiveness. This not only benefits the craftsmen but also ensures customers receive high-quality services,” said Ben Wirz, Founding Partner at Brighteye.
“It’s remarkable to follow Adam’s success and the results they’ve achieved since the previous Presto investment – including their expansion into new countries and the launch of renovation and brick-masonry services. We’re certainly proud to be Adam’s first VC investor,” added Roman Novacek, partner at Presto Ventures, which backed the company with a €1 milion seed investment a year and a half ago.
What does the company do?
Adam was founded in the Czech Republic by Roman Sysel and Jakub Dvorak in 2020. It is a home-service platform that provides customers with easy online access to reliable contractor services. It modernises the way clients find reliable and available tradespeople for home improvement services without the hassle of long wait times and confusing price lists.
It also facilitates continuous training and professional development for the craftsmen, empowering these professionals to expand their services and improve their competitiveness. The support and optimisation the platform provides helps contractors grow their businesses and take on more complex and better-paid projects. “
To date, the company has focused on painting services and apartment renovations. Year-on-year, it has served three times the number of projects and boasts more than 15,000 completed jobs.
“Undoubtedly, traditional craftsmanship is in need of modernisation. That said, no one has yet managed to solve all three decisive factors – quality, availability, and price – simultaneously. We decided to tackle this complex situation one trade at a time. Our vision is that one day you will be able to build an entire house through Adam,” said Adam’s co-founder Roman Sysel.
“Trade professionals generally spend a lot of time with site inspections, work planning, and customer communication. Adam takes care of everything for them, allowing tradespeople to triple the number of jobs they can handle in a month. This translates into a massive increase in efficiency, enabling them to charge less. In other words, customers save money while craftsmen earn more. It’s a win-win situation all around,” explained Adam’s co-founder Jakub Dvorak.
