Firmus Technologies has secured $327 million in fresh funding as it accelerates efforts to build renewable-powered data centres designed for the next wave of AI computing. The raise pushes the Nvidia-backed company’s valuation to around $600 million.

The new capital will be deployed across site development, infrastructure build-out, and long-term energy sourcing for Firmus facilities stretching from Perth to Sydney and Tasmania. The company aims to deliver up to 1.6 gigawatts of AI infrastructure capacity by 2028, a scale that would place it among Australia’s most ambitious data-centre developers.

While the firm didn’t name investors in the round, it confirmed that existing investors returned, reinforcing belief in Firmus’s model of pairing high-performance computing with sustainable power. Nvidia’s involvement continues to be a critical enabler as Firmus prepares to deploy next-generation chips within its upcoming centres.

Founders with a vision to rewrite Australia’s digital footprint

Firmus Technologies was founded in Singapore by Oliver Curtis and Tim Rosenfield in 2020. Curtis with a clear mission to build data centres that do not repeat the energy-intensive mistakes of previous generations. The founders’ backgrounds, spanning infrastructure, energy, and advanced computing, shaped a company that treats renewable power as a foundational requirement rather than an afterthought.

Their strategy leans heavily on sourcing clean energy from Australia’s emerging renewable hubs and designing campuses that integrate directly with these power streams. This philosophy, combined with close alignment with industry leaders like Nvidia, has helped Firmus stand out in a global market crowded with data-centre startups.

Building high-density AI sites across Australia

Firmus is currently developing two new data centres in Melbourne and Tasmania, both designed to support heavy AI workloads. These facilities will be among the first in Australia to operate using Nvidia’s upcoming GB300 chips, dramatically increasing compute density while keeping energy consumption in check.

Both sites are expected to be operational by April, marking an early milestone in the company’s ambitious expansion plan. By blending renewable energy with cutting-edge hardware, Firmus aims to offer enterprises a way to scale AI applications without inflating carbon footprints or grid pressure.

With a strengthened war chest and a rapidly expanding portfolio of green data-centre projects, Firmus Technologies is positioning itself as a central player in Australia’s push to become a global hub for sustainable, AI-ready infrastructure.

Firmus Co-CEO Oliver Curtis: “This raise allows us to deliver on the next phase of Project Southgate – expanding beyond Tasmania into four major mainland regions. We’re manufacturing a new class of AI infrastructure, on Australian soil, that is purpose-built for scale, performance, and sustainability. This means high value local jobs and a critical piece of sovereign capability for Australia.”

Co-CEO Tim Rosenfeld added: “We’ve spent years developing a vertically integrated AI Factory platform that can scale more efficiently than traditional approaches. With demand for AI infrastructure accelerating, this funding ensures we can meet it quickly, cost-effectively, and in line with Australia’s renewable energy future.”
