Ireland’s newest tech unicorn Flipdish bags $100M at £1.25B valuation for its digital food-ordering platform

Dublin-based Flipdish offers an international online ordering and digital experience platform for hospitality. The company just joined the growing European unicorn club by closing a $100 million investment in a round led by Tencent alongside its existing investors Global Founders Capital, Tiger Global, Elkstone, Enterprise Ireland and Growing Capital.

With this, the company is now valued at $1.25 billion. Notably, this investment round follows the $48.5 million funding it secured from Tiger Global Management back in February 2021.

Ambitious growth plans for 2022

Flipdish will use the proceeds of this round to grow global operations, enhance its R&D in products to improve the digital experience of the hospitality industry for users and support new customers including airports, stadia and cinemas. Besides this, the company is in plans to hire 700 more people in 2022 to fill in roles such as engineers, data scientists, software architects, and product designers.

What does Flipdish do?

Founded in 2015 by brothers Conor and James McCarthy, Flipdish allows hospitality businesses to deliver seamless consumer digital experiences that drive business growth. The unicorn provides technology that powers QR code order and pay-at-table, online ordering for collection and delivery, self-service kiosks, customer loyalty, and digital marketing.

Already, Flipdish operates in 25 countries including the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. Also, it works with thousands of independent restaurant customers and major brands such as All Day Kitchens and Popchew. The company works with some of the world’s largest ghost kitchen companies that partner with the likes of TGI Friday’s, White Castle, Dickey’s BBQ Pit, and others.

Growth amidst pandemic

The company provides software, which enables direct ordering from restaurants. It offers a “white label” app solution that allows restaurants to retain control over business data while still tapping into the growing market for eating at home. Amidst the pandemic, the company has witnessed a surge in business and has shown 300% growth last year and has branched out also to convenience stores to provide on-demand grocery delivery services.

We already know that it provides online ordering. Besides this, there are things reduces queue times and increases average order values. There is improved customer satisfaction with a range of in-store ordering options as well that are integrated with Flipdish portal.
