Quantum technology has spent decades in the lab, promising to transform how the world computes, senses and secures information, but the bottleneck has always been scale. Firgun Ventures wants to close that gap.

The new London-based firm is launching a $250 million venture capital fund dedicated entirely to early-growth-stage quantum companies and announcing its first close at $70 million.

Backed by the Qatar Investment Authority, the fund is designed to help quantum companies move from promising pilots to products that can be deployed in the real economy across industries and geographies.

Building trust in an AI digital world

Founded by Dr Kris Naudts, a founder of Culture Trip, and Zeynep Koruturk, who spent more than a decade at Goldman Sachs, Firgun Ventures aims to be the next wave of category‑defining companies that will be built by founders who can cross from lab to market and who need investors who genuinely understand both worlds.

Firgun’s name is rooted in the idea of genuine, generous support, and the team describes its ethos with a twist on medicine’s core principle: “First, do no harm.” In practice, that means backing founders with patient, values‑driven capital and helping them build organisations that can sustain innovation without burning out their people or their mission.

The firm wants to partner with entrepreneurs who see quantum as a platform for long‑term change in areas like healthcare, climate science, finance and cybersecurity, and who are ready to turn deep technology into dependable infrastructure.

On the technology side, Firgun is positioning itself as a specialist rather than a generalist fund with a “quantum” label. The firm will focus on companies in quantum computing, quantum sensing and quantum communications or cryptography, backing teams that have already moved beyond proof‑of‑concept and are starting to show product‑market fit.

Early backing from family offices and from Ilyas Khan, founder of Cambridge Quantum Computing (now Quantinuum), shows the firm’s credibility in the quantum ecosystem and its access to some of the most advanced work in the field. For founders, that combination of scientific rigour, entrepreneurial experience and financial sophistication is designed to feel less like a traditional investor and more like an extension of the leadership team.

What’s next?

While the management team is based in London, the fund will invest across North America, Europe and other innovation hubs where quantum companies are emerging. The goal is to assemble a portfolio of Series A and B companies that will define the first true commercial wave of quantum, not as distant science projects, but as critical tools embedded in industries from pharmaceuticals to logistics.
